Question about Westinghouse 19" Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor

1 Answer

19' Westinghouse Monitor - Intermitent come on.

I can jiggle the power cord & the monitor will come on or off. I proped a small box under the cord at the back of monitor. This is only a band-aid of course. Most of the time it holds & works. Does this necessary mean the problem is the power cord? I just happened on this website. I was on-line looking to buy a power cord, but it looks like this is pretty much a general problem with the product. With it being intermitent it would be hard for a repair shop to locate the problem @ $22.50. At this particular repair shop they didn't sell power cords.

The problem is either with the power cord itself (especially if it is connected to the monitor such that it stays bent all the time), or the problem might be with the socket into which the power cord plugs in the monitor. The solder joints fixing the power socket to the circuit board & connecting the power terminals to the circuitry usually tend to get loose after some period of usage either due to mechanical stress while connecting/disconnecting the power cord to/from the socket, or due to high currents passing through these joints continuously.
My suggestion is to test with a power cord which is known to work without problems. If this did not fix the problem, then the monitor will need service (monitor needs to be disassembled to a degree that permits re-soldering of the power socket's terminals to the circuit board).

I have a Westinghouse monitor Model # LCM-19v SL the monitor keep turning off. Unplugging then replugging gets it working then it shorts out again. Can I replace the power Supply cord - Potrans ITE Power...

i also have a 19" westinghouse monitor the screen on mine goes black i just turn the monitor of then back on the problem is it's overheating and from what i understand it's caused by faulty or worn capacitors the ones that are bad are vented on top so it's easy to tell the bad ones. you can see what they look like on line!

I need a power cord for a Scanport 1920S 19 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor

It uses a "standard" power-cord.
Look in any "Thrift Store" or "Dollar Store",
or buy at any small "mom-and-pop" computer-store -- they probably have a box-full of them.

Don't pay more than $2.

Power cord issue? Black Screen with image issue?

The powere cord you are using is fine (the cord is made to handle the 10A load, you are only drawing 1.5A). The monitor uses switching mode power supply that can handle any voltage INPUT between 100v up to 240v. More likely to be bad caps in the power supply. See example of failed Westinghouse due to bad caps: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Screen goes black with power on. It also flickers and power flickers. Does both randomly. New computer. All new drivers. Windows 7. Video card and monitor set with same display settings.

This sounds like a power issue. Check the power cord going to the monitor. Make sure it is fully plugged in. Make sure the receptacle is good and the wiring at that receptacle is tight and secure. Try another receptacle to be sure. Make sure the cord going from the computer to the monitor is secure and tight. You say this is a new computer. If so, then take it back where you bought it if you cannot find the problem.

Won't Power On

Check to see if the Power cord is connected on both ends.
If this doesn't work, then try a different power cable. Use one that you know works.
If that fails, i suggest you upgrade to a new monitor.

There is a loud buzzing/static sound coming from my monitor. It changes pitch and sound a little with different screens. The visual display does not seem to be effected. Just a terrible sound. Any ideas...

Start by getting a can of the electronics spray air and blowing out and areas that may collect dust.

Also jiggle the power cord attached to the monitor and watch to see if it changes the monitor or the squealing at all.

Seems more like a lose power connection, but eliminate the simple possibilities before moving toward circuit board issues etc.

Also do you have any other high powered electronic devices near the monitor?

That can effect it's performance as well.

Monitor goes blank randomly

It is the capacitor on the power to the monitor. I have replaced about 5 so for. The capacitor is like 69 cents. Open it up and look at the circuit board where the power plugs into and see if any capacitor are bubbled up. If so then its a bad capacitor.
