Jeromy I have a Vizio LED SmartCast E40-do. Audio works, but the screen is black with a jagged bright line of light going across the bottom half of the screen. Any idea what the problem may be?

The set is under a year old and is under warranty. The LVDS cable inside these sets have a history of coming loose. The problem could be the panel. Either way, the set is the problem and needs to be looked at. This set is worked on in the home and does not need to be taken to a shop, so, you can still use it. Fixed non moving lines usually means you have a problem in the panel display or t-con. If it is in warranty get it to a factory authorized service center. If not you can try to change the t-con and see if this fixes the problem, if not then it will be the panel it's self and will be cost prohibitive to repair.

That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.
