Re: wanting to change Hard Drive

If you take the case off you will see where the hd is on the ribbon their should be a spare conector like the one that goes into the one already installed and you will also need a power lead there should be a spare one any way plug the other hard drive in aswell as the one you are using then switch on with both hard drives in then when you goto my computer it should let you pick other hard drive alternatively take your hd out and put the old one in on its own boot your comp up and then save what ever you need to then take it back out and put yours back in this is ok todo and wont affect anything on your computer hope this is some help to you

Start by removing:
Ram Chip one by one. See if it will change anything (if it doesn't put that back in)
Cd Drive
Hard drive
Anything else (video card, PCI components)

Computer says disk boot fail

If you have not changed any settings in the bios, then you may have a bad hard drive.

Did you just install a new hard drive? If so, you will need to install the OS, which means you will need a Microsoft Windows Install CD. If you have not, and the computer has previously been running fine, with no hardware changes or bios changes, then your hard drive probably failed. You can run a windows boot disk, and at a command prompt type:

chkdsk c: /f /r

You may want to try booting form the windows XP (assuming thats what your running) install cd, and try to run a repair. If that fails, you may want to run the above command.

If all else fails, you will need a new hard driver, and then try to recover data off of your old hard drive.

How do i flash bios on my 2400 Dell Dimension

Your sister has a vivid imagination. Changing the memory and flashing the BIOS will chane nothing.

If you want to start from scrath then reformat the hard drive and reinstall the system but as you probably don't have a system backup disc this will prove impossible for you.

Your best bet is take it to your local PC shop (I don't mean the mainstream ones) and they will be able to restore your system.

You've learned a valuble lesson the hard way here. Always have a good antivirus programme installed, make sure it is up to date and do a full scan on a regular basis.

I have a PC Dell Dimension 2400 with a hard 40 GB

Basically when you install a new boot drive you need to install Windows operating system on the new hard drive, also the device drivers (eg video, audio, modem, LAN etc), your programs and data. The reason programs has to be installed is because the installation process copied DLL files to the System folders and makes changes to the registry.
You can only copy your data onto the new hard disk.
To avoid copying your data to the new hard drive, you can set up the old hard drive as second hard drive (ie. slave drive), if you delete the redundant folders and leave only the data folders then you have an adddition 40Gb of disk space.

Dell DimE310 wont reeboot

You should be able to get a start up software that is a portable software that can reside on a usb stick. Hunt for this software using google. Call out for a portable xp or what ever OS system ... and you can use this as a startup. When it does start up go to safe mode and resolve the hard drive errors with trojan virues or defrag, then use error professional pro to clear out dll and other problems. Most times all the problems are found it the unused program paths and other internet cookies and affliates thet go along with the rest of the errors. You can also get Regcure, this is also a good system problem solver. This softwae really works.

Hp media center - hard disc failure iminent

I am sure that noone wants to tel you thins but when you go the Hard disk failer iminent that was so you woudl shut it down and transfer everything onto another disk. Once it crashes, such as your has, you cannot recover the data w/o very expensive equiptment or costly contracting out the HD for data recover.      About the only thing that you can do now is replace the hard drive, download a   recovery disk from HP,if one is available, for your model, If you have not already made one, and reinstall the software from the disk.
