Question about Nikon Telephoto AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4D ED-IF II Autofocus Lens - Black

3 Answers

Hi there, I used my lens with a Nikon D3 camera + a Nikon AF-s Teleconverter TC-20 E II yesterday at dusk, about 7:30PM. I took off the converter later, but since that the lens doesn't focus automatically. (I use the converter with the lens since about a year and I had no problem untill now.)How can I fix it? Thanks for your time and help. Regards: Ildi

I bought it last year. I took 9100 photos with it.

I have to correct myself: the motor moves, but does not focus correctly, the picture is still unsharp. I tried with a new battery, but the problem is the same.

I have a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4D IF-ED II lens and I used it with a Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-20 E II on my Nikon D3 camera yesterday. (The camera is 1 year old.)I took off the converter later ( at dusk), but the lens doesn't focus properly since that. I mean the motor moves, but it doesn't focus, so the picture is unsharp. Can I fix it or do I have to send it to repair? Thanks.

    Regards:
    Ildi

Sorry, I thought the message will show the lens:which is the AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4D IF-ED II and I had problem with FOCUSING it automatically. I'm a pro photographer and I don't use DX lenses. I have one AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 ED DX, which is pretty good lens for my Nikon D200. During the time we figured out the problem, so the lens and the camera works great. Thanks for your time and help.

DX lenses work great on your D3, but waste the whole point of the big sensor of the D3.
Used on a D3, DX lenses only use the central 5MP portion of the sensor. A D300 or even a D40 gives more resolution with DX lenses.
If you have DX lenses, donate them to a student with a DX camera. DX lenses waste the full-frame sensor for which you're paying big bucks in a D3.

Hi there,

It was probably a lens motor problem.
How old is your Camera?

Thanks

Well, first of all you try changing the new battery.... if no variation in condition means i has a bad lens motor.
    Thanks

You can order the Tamron 2x teleconverter here. Be aware that not all lenses are compatible with teleconverters, and you can actually damage some lenses by trying to use them with a teleconverter.

Can I use a Kenko Lens with a Nikon D60?

If it's an AF teleconverter you will be able to use it and get proper exposure from the camera, but it will not autofocus with the D60. The D60 requires AF-S lenses and teleconverters for autofocus.

This is a lens for Sony/Minolta cameras. It is not compatible with the Nikon D90. Hence a Teleconverter for Nikon will not work on this lens to mount it to a Nikon D90.

Nikon TC-17E II with Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8

You may have a dirty contact on the tc cpu pins. Try cleaning the pins with a clean pencil eraser or some methanol. You could also have a loose connection between the tc and the lens or body. Try applying a rotational force in both directions...see if you notice any change in behavior. If you have a local shop, see if you can try another copy on your lens.
The 17e may have slow-ish performance in low light, but it should still be usable. If neither of these issues is apparent then it may need to be exchanged or serviced.

Auto focusing problem

The D40 will only autofocus with the Nikkor AF-S lens...look for the AF-S in the lens title. For 3rd party lens, only SIGMA with the USM title will autofocus.

To use the T-adaptor...you will need to use the "Manual" mode of the camera.
