SOURCE: PRO- TECH DRILL PRESS BENCH MODEL

What you have is a jacobs taper chuck and on the chuck it should tell you whether it is a number 1 -3 the chuck is pressed on and possibly has a screw. You would need to go to a repair center for that or an industrial supply house. Let me know if you need any more help and if so please furnish any information that you have. The header is confusing about this tool

If you look at the end of the shaft on the drill after it unscrews, there will be a hole with threads inside--if not the screw may have broken off---your missing screw that holds the chuck on--it's a left handed threaded screw---it's head may be slotted--philips---torx---or allen---this is available at your Dewalt dealer or tool repair---all that needed is the size/model number of unit---screw the chuck back on tightly then open chuck jaws all the way then put the holding screw in---tighten it down---REMEMBER IT'S LEFT HANDED----GL

How do you remove the chuck from a 3/8 electric drill

Open up chuck for largest drill bit. Look inside and you will see a screw, remove the screw. Put a pair of vise grips on the stationary part of the drill chuck, which is the part of the chuck that the tightening tool goes into. The chuck is screwed onto left hand threads. Take a rubber mallet and hit the pair of vise grips clockwise sharply, to loosen chuck. You can now do what you planned on doing. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

How do I change the chuck on my milwaukee right angle 1/2" drill? It has snapped off behind the chuck

Take digital photos when taking the front metal gear box off the drill. Next carefully remove the two plastic halves of the drill if needed to gain access to the shaft that holds the chuck.
Replace the broken threaded metal part that the chuck screws onto.
Normally chuck replacement involves unscrewing the small screw deep inside the chuck on a metal shaft has a left hand thread. Next use a large allen wrench tightened in the chuck with a mallet to loosen the bad chuck. Reverse to install new chuck.

3/8 Drill Driver, chuck replacement.

hi friend,
Step 1. Determine what kind of replacement drill chuck you want - a keyed chuck or key less chuck. Over the years, key less chucks have been widely used for handheld power tool drills, due to their improving grip torque and convenience.

Step 2. If you prefer replacement key less chucks, then you have to know what type of key less chuck you will need - a single sleeve key less chuck or a double-sleeve chuck. You can simply determine it by checking your current chuck. If your current chuck is a keyed chuck or a double sleeve chuck, then you will need a replacement double-sleeve key less chuck. On the other hand, if your current chuck is a single sleeve chuck, then you should get a replacement single sleeve chuck.

Step 3. Confirm the threaded mount size (spindle size) on the chuck. 3/8"-24 threaded mount for 3/8" capacity drill chucks and 1/2"-20 threaded mount for 1/2" capacity drill chucks, but there are some exceptions where just the opposite may occur. To be safe, always check the threaded mount before you buy replacement drill chucks.

How i remove a dewalt drill chuck Model dc988

put the drill in speed setting 1 before you continue~!

Step 1. This step loosens the screw inside the chuck. Open the chuck all the way — if you see a screw inside, it’ll need to come out before you can remove the chuck. If there’s no screw inside, you can skip steps one and two.

Step 2. If there’s a screw inside the chuck, typically the threading will be left-handed, so turn it clockwise to remove it. Be careful, and use the right size screwdriver — you don’t want to strip the screw.
step-2.gif Step 3. Insert the largest hex key that you have into the chuck, short-side-in, and tighten the chuck. Tap the hex key sharply in a counterclockwise direction to loosen the chuck. Now you can remove it by hand.
step-3.gif This won’t work for every consumer drill ever made, but pretty close. Most drills will match one of two common chuck-threading standards: 3/8′-24 threaded mount for 3/8′-capacity drill chucks, and 1/2′-20 threaded mount for 1/2′-capacity drill chucks — but on some drills just the opposite may occur. To be safe, always check the thread count before you buy a replacement drill chuck.

Black decker drill keyless chuck won.t open !

hold the back of the chuck with channel locks or a vice and use the same channel locks on the front and open the chuck manually it should work and you can get to the screw to replace it or the hand chuck. this can be a little frustrating but hang in there and you'll be a pro shortly.

How to remove the chuck

You will need 2 spanners ( the size vary's from differant models) and A screwdriver (generally phillips/star). Remove the screw that is inside the mouth of the chuck (it screws throough the back of the chuck and into the chuck shaft). Then get your 2 spanners - One goes on to the chuck and the other goes onto the shaft that the chuck attaches to. Turn the chuck anti Clockwise. This may be vary hard to do as somtime they rust and cease and you may need to brace the second spanner in a bench/table vise and use a hammer to gently tap away at the 1st spanner (the one holding the chuck). I find that spraying a litlle penatrating oil on the screw and the shaft an hour before attemting helps about 80% of the time.

hope this helps

Drill chuck swap

1. Turn the screw clockwise to take it out.
2. Then you needs 3/8 allen key & insert the short side of the allen key & tighten the chuck.
3. hold the drill at the edge of the table & wack the allen key
counter clockwise & do it again as needed.
4. dewalt keyless chuck will fit but you might add a washer to insure the chuck is not rubbing the clutch collar.
5. putting it back together the other way.
