Thank you very much for the info! I had to have a repair man come out and check out this problem. I was on the right track in replacing the ice maker, but the new ice maker was bad out of the box. I had him install another new one, and now we have ice again. So once again thank you. Bill..

You need to test the dual water control valve on rear of refrigerator with and ohm meter. Disconnect both sides from the power connections at the control valves. Test each coil with an ohm meter. You should get the same or close to the same reading on both coils. Let me know what your model number is and I will be able to tell you the part numbers, Thanks, Sea Breeze

OK now test the ice maker with tap water and let me know if the ice maker cycles after the water freezes. The water control valve may be the problem, but some use 120 volts to come on and others do not. Need to look in the back of freezer too to see that the water has not frozen the fill tube shut. The readings on the coils are about 1/3 different and they should be almost exactly the same because they are the same coil just different functions. If not it could be the internal thermostat in the ice maker. The part number for the water control valve is 67004098

Thanks, For the rate, Sea Breeze

Note if ice maker works by filling with tap water and dumps the ice then we know the water control valve is defective.

I see you answered a couple days ago. I have had problems with getting notice that you or anyone made a comment. The new ice maker has a thermostat inside it. When it senses that the water is frozen then it should begin its cycle of heating the element below the ice cubes for a few moments and the the element turns off and the ice maker starts its turn to dump. After it dumps it returns back to the fill location and because the thermostat is not freezing like before the ice maker tells the water control valve to come on long enough to fill the ice maker and begin again this cycle. Something is wrong with the ice maker or the power supply to it. Sea Breeze

Thank You Bill, This is the first comment I have received from Fixya in more that a month. I would have had the answer earlier if the problem with their server had been corrected sooner. I was having to go to every solution and look to see if someone made a comment. Anyway you are fixed and that is good! Thanks, Sea Breeze

Pour about 1/2 cup into icemaker and if it dumps , water valve is the problem . If not , and you already put in a new icemaker , then make sure the coils behind refrig are clean and the motor which cools the compressor is working . An icemaker has to be at least 5 degrees to operate .

Ice Maker quit, everything started to thaw out.

Good day,
Limited information. The ice maker will go into auto lockout if the freezer goes above 14 degrees.
Motors make noise.
There is a fan motor behind the back wall, of the freezer compartment. If the machine is turned on, it should run, and you should be able to hear it.
If not, remove the rear panel and inspect.
The second fan motor, is located in the back rear of the machine, behind the rear cover, it should be running as well.
If both are running O.K. then it is in the compressor itself.
A pricey problem, if it's the compressor. Should be checked by a qualified tech.

P.S. If you feel it is a compressor problem, and the unit is less than 5 years of age, then contact your selling dealer. It would be under warranty.

Thank you for using FixYa

My ice maker is not dumping the ice it just freezes and stays in there help

You need to replace the ice maker . It is a lot less time consuming to replace the ice maker , than to try and repair it . But , if you want to try , you have a bad thermostat , or broken gear . If the gear type , pull the cover off the ice maker , and you will see the motor running ( small gear ) , but not turning the large gear . In this case , replacing the large gear , would be the best thing , instead of replacing the whole ice maker .

Ice maker won't quit dispensing ice cubes don't have ice skates!

The ice maker has a problem The ice maker is a separate appliance within the freezer section. Please see the How things Work section of our website to learn about the normal functioning of ice makers. Some common problems with ice makers are:

The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice
The ice maker is producing ice poorly
The ice maker has completely stopped producing ice Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

The ice maker is producing ice poorly When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repair

U-Line undercounter frost free ice maker refrigerator

All units made today have defrost timers to clear ice from the evaporator. Some of the ice sublimates...turns directly into humidity in the air in the box. It re-condenses in the ice tray area. It is possible that nothing is wrong other than excessive opening of the bin area or the defrost timer is running slow and staying on too long. You may also be consuming the ice too slowly. Can you either change the amount of ice in the bin by adding something to simulate part of the ice content or shut off ice production against low demand?
