    Hello expert,

The radio is the original one. It is in a 2001 Subaru Forester. I bought the car used about one and one-half years ago, and the radio hasn't worked from the first day I owned it. On the FM band it occasionally receives voice reception but this reception does not persist; there is no voice reception at all on the AM band. The CD and Tape players work fine.

Thanks for your suggestion to plug in a new auto antenna. I will do this within the next few days, and report back to you.

Do you have any other suggestions if this doesn't remedy the problem?

Yes, the solution was helpful. I bought a $10.00 radio antenna, and installed it in place of the original. The radio worked. However, the original antenna is part of the front windshield, so now I have to install the new antenna outside somewhere on the front fender or top of the car. This is going to cost me either time or money to do. So, I am a partially "happy camper." Thanks for the advice. It did help.

Check for corrosion of your antenna wire.
You can check the status of the one in the vehicle by purchasing a cheap $10 automotive antenna and plugging it into the radio.

Thanks!!

It sounds like the antenna is no hooked up solid. You need to reach up behind the radio and feel for the antenna wire and screw it on tight.

Radio static

Check your antenna. If the mast is not extended, your reception will be limited. try an AM station, usually a local AM station will still come in even with the mast down. Have you tried playing a CD (if equipped) ? If that plays well, you've confirmed lack of reception as the problem. If the mast is extended and you still do not have reception, the antenna plug my have come out of the back of the radio. The requires removing the radio to check.

The am radio is unclear with a lot of static. Can this be cleared up?

Try moving the unit to another area, sometimes certain parts of a room get better reception. You might also just live in an area with weak reception.

Dual xhd6425 Reception Problems

My XHD6425 seems to be very inconsistent... Sometimes I get okay reception, other times I get terrible reception (much worse than my original stock Ford radio). The reception problems are more noticeable on stations that are more than 30 miles away or so.
Perhaps oddest of all, I've sometimes had it bounce back and forth between two stations (like if you are driving and in the middle of nowhere, half way between two stations), even in areas where I know should be getting good reception on one station and had never heard of the other other station before.
If you've figured anything out, please let me know.

SL100 static and bad FM reception

I have noticed various changes in my invehicle FM reception as well. There should be a external antenna that came with your car kit. This is precisely for these types of issues. It is designed to run along the windshield inside the car closest to the Cars radio antenna. It should plugin to the bottom of the cradle. Then tune it into a clean FM station (one that has no local station on it) and position the cradle and/or ext. antenna till you get the best reception in your vehicle. It could very well be that the antenna has come has loose on your car stereo backplane. You would probably notice decreased reception on regular AM/FM stations as well though.
Your wifi reception/functionality is a completely different animal and has no bearing on the FM transmitter in the car cradle. When your on wifi your not receiving signal from a sat. anymore just simply streaming internet audio like your computer.
Good luck.
