Lost DHCP connection. I changed nothing on my config
I changed nothing on my router config and suddenly I lost my internet connection. I know the service is working fine becasue I can surf the web if connect from the ISP modem to my PC directly.
Now I can not make the router take an IP address. I was using DHCP. I tried unplug, restart both modem and router, but when asking for "DHCP Renew" (in Status, Router) I get nothing.
Also changed settings in Router to factory defaults, but without any luck. Router is WRT54G2
Any ideas, pals?
Thanks in advance,

You may want to press and hold (using a pen or a paper clip) the reset button of the router for 30 seconds and then unplug the power of the router. Turn off the modem, wait for 10 seconds, turn on the modem, and then the router, and make sure that the modem is connected to the internet port of the router and PC to the ethernet port (1, 2, 3 or 4). See if the router will obtain an IP address from the modem. If not, download here http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G2/download the latest firmware for the router.
Ensure that you download the correct version for the router.

dchp problem. sounds like the modem is doing dhcp that's why it works plug in directly. disable the dhcp server in the router go to Network > DHCP Server > General in the router and disable it. only the modem or router can do dhcp.
DHCP SERVER in Router and DHCP server in Wireless Conflicting - Set WI Fi DHCP router leases to say 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100 and default gateway as 192.168.0.1 and on the router set the router's ip address to 192.168.0.1 make the Wi Fi router address 192,168.0.2 . Set in the router the DHCP address leases to 192.168.0.101 - 192.168.0.254 and default gateway 192.168.0.1 or deactivate one of the dhcp servers and rely on one dhcp server like the routers and then deactivate the wi fi's dhcp server.
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router. If your network is secured then make sure that you are typing the correct network key. also make sure that the DHCP server is enabled on the router. is there any computer connected to the router ? If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer. Router set up page is the page where you can check all the wireless settings of the router. Click here for step by step instructions
Let's look at how to configure basic DHCP on an IOS-based router. For this example, we'll start off with the default configuration on a Cisco 2611 router running IOS 12.2. (The configuration should be the same—or very similar—on all IOS-based routers).
To begin, connect the router's Ethernet port to a switch, and connect the switch to a laptop, which will serve as the DHCP client.
To configure Cisco IOS DHCP, follow these steps, which include sample commands:
1.Configure an IP address on the router's Ethernet port, and bring up the interface. (On an existing router, you would have already done this.) Router(config)# interface ethernet0/0 Router(config-if)#ip address 22.214.171.124 255.0.0.0 Router(config-if)# no shutdown2.Create a DHCP IP address pool for the IP addresses you want to use. Router(config)# ip dhcp pool mypool3.Specify the network and subnet for the addresses you want to use from the pool. Router(dhcp-config)# network 126.96.36.199 /8 4.Specify the DNS domain name for the clients. Router(dhcp-config)#domain-name mydomain.com5.Specify the primary and secondary DNS servers. Router(dhcp-config)#dns-server 188.8.131.52 184.108.40.206.Specify the default router (i.e., default gateway). Router(dhcp-config)#default-router 220.127.116.11.Specify the lease duration for the addresses you're using from the pool. Router(dhcp-config)#lease 78.Exit Pool Configuration Mode. Router(dhcp-config)#exit

you dont have router protected (is not yours anymore).to gain control again, you can rest config. but you need your router manual nerby, to help you config. a previous internet provider config. and so on. to reset router config, you press a reset button on the back, until the lights is off/red. then config the router on the router website( writen on botton with default user and passw.(user: admin passw: admin or password) the wan config, Wlan,...
(Use a wpa2/wep encrption level on Wlan config.)
Note: change all router passw every 30 days, or less if necessary.
Change the calbe from the router to the dsl modem. Make sure you check labels on the rear of these devices to make sure the connections go where indicated. Is there and ethernet light on your modem. If that is on then the connection is made. Also check if the DSL modem works directly connected to the pc.
