Question about LG WD-3243RHD Front Load Washer / Dryer

1 Answer

My washer/dryer is not draining properly.

My washer will not drain the water. I am trying to fix it myself but am haiving difficulties. It seems there are 3 ways to resolve this:
1. clean the lint from the an elbow tube. Does anyone know how to do this?
2. It may require removing the hoses from the pump but no idea how to do this either.
3. Last resort is to call a tech.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: My washer/dryer is not draining properly.

If the pump is not draining, either the drain filter screen is clogged with debris, the drain pump is jammed by foreign debris or the drain pump itself has failed.  More than likely something is clogged in the filter screen or a sock is jammed up inside the drain bellows tube just before the filter.  Pull the drain filter screen out and look up the hole to see if there is any material stuck inside.  Usually that's the problem.

My Maytag Top Loader will only fill with water up to 3 inches then it continues to drain while the water is coming in. How can I fix this myself?

You may have a condition known as "siphoning". This is usually caused by the drain hose not being high enough off the floor, or not having a proper air gap at the standpipe in order to drain properly. This creates a suction and the washer will constantly drain (siphon) as it tries to fill. The following link explains:

In the majority of the cases, this problem is attributed to improper installation, rather than an actual problem with the washer. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Washer will not fill up!

The water is siphoning out as it fills. Your drain hose is too low or has a air block. Remove the drain hose from the drain. Set the washer to fill. Hold the drain hose up higher than the washer. If it fills correctly and starts agitating, correct the drain hose problem.

The drain hose might be too low. Make sure the drain hose is at least three feet above the floor.

When starting the washer, it occasionally will not fill

Check the drain hose. The open end of the pipe the hose drains into must be higher than the top of the washer's tub (usually 30 inches or so off the floor, minimum) or the water can siphon right out. The drain hose should not be a sealed connection to the drain pipe. Try to extend the drain pipe up to about 36 inches off the floor level.

Water problems

If the washer doesn't fill properly, or if only one temperature of water fills the tub, something is probably keeping water from entering the machine or it's draining before the tub fills completely. Set the controls to the first wash cycle, and then try each water temperature setting. If both hot and cold water seem to be entering the washer with good pressure, water may be draining out prematurely during the fill cycle, through siphoning action. Be sure the drain hose's connection to the standpipe is at least 34 inches above the floor (otherwise, discuss the problem with a plumber). An air gap between drain hose and stand pipe that prevents backflow is also good to have. If hot works but cold doesn't, or vice versa: 1) Be sure both the hot and cold water faucets are turned on. 2) Be sure the supply hoses are not kinked. 3) Turn off the faucets. Unscrew the hoses from the faucets and drain them into a bucket. Hold the bucket under the faucets and test them to make sure they both work and have plenty of pressure (see HERE for information on replacing faucets). Screw the hoses back onto the faucets. 4) Unscrew the hoses from the inlet valves and clean the filter screens just inside them; these may be clogged. To do this, pry out the screens with a screwdriver (this can be difficult; the screens may be inside the valves), flush them under running water, then put them back into the hose. If the screens look defective, replace them. Then screw the hoses back onto the valves. Be careful not to cross-thread the hose threads when screwing them back onto the valves. 5) Call an appliance repairperson; there may be a defective inlet valve or a problem with the controls.
