Go To http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/home click on Tab Support - enter the model number of your Linksys unit. Follow directions to download program. If that does not work because you have an older model - post the model number here - I have a stack of old linksys CD's and might just have yours.
You need to check first if it is the program that is causing this or not. If you have a computer without the program, have it connected to the router. If it connects it may be the program. Check if switching cable may help. IT may be a faulty cable. It may also be something in your PC that is causing this one.
reset the wrt54g. Do not use the EasylinkAdvisor Setup. Restart your whole system. That should work. If that did not work, call linksys technical support. If they cannot help try this http://technicalsupport.blog.friendster.com
When you press the CTRL+ Dek key, the task manager would come up, Click on the processes tab. Select Outlook.exe or windows mail.exe in the list and select end proccess.
If the same doesnot work, try restarting your computer and then configure the router once again.
You need to close Micorsoft Outlook program first.
Warning: Microsoft Outlook .pst file might be corrupted when terminated forcely.
Alternatively but with caution: Hit ctrl-alt-del keys and choose Task manager. In the applications tabs look and select for the certain program you want to end. Click on End Task button to force it to end.
You really don't need to install the Linksys cd. Let windows control the wireless with "wireless zero configuration" I install these almost every day.
First reset the router. Hook it on a computer with a Cat5 cable. Then go to 192.168.1.1 in the browser adress fiels. Log onto the router. the default password is admin with no username.
Once in the setup page, go to wireless . There set the SSID (the name you want your network to be)
Then on the security tab, set your encryption key.
Then restart your wireless computers. Click on the wireless icon. click on view all wireless networks. You should see your network there. click connect and put your key in twice. You should be able to connect wirelessly ok.
If "wireless Zero Configuration " is off, go to:
Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and make sure it is set to automatic and that it is started.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
File Sharing could be easily done between your laptop & desktop assuming both are running some Windows version with no other program needed to install. You have to right click on the filename/folder and enable sharing. Of course both computers must belong to the same network group for easy access.
Should you need additional information, pls post back your Windows version.
