Question about Intex Automatic Salt Water System for Above Ground Saltwater Pool

1 Answer

We switched to the saltwater system and the water is cloudy

When we installed the pump our pool had been filled prior with water and we were using chlorine tablets. Our pool turned green so we bought the saltwater chlorinator hoping it wold solve our problems. We drained the green water, all but a couple inches and refilled with fresh water, added the proper amount of pool salt and waited 24 hrs per instructions. We then turned on the pump and have been running it for about 48 hrs and the chlorinator about 3-4 hrs in a 24 hr time. Our pool is 16x42. The ph is about 7 and our chlorine is about 1-2. ist kind hard to read the test. Our alkalinity is low. We havent added anything else and the water is cloudy. We have been hesitant do add a bunch of stuff due to fear of just making things worse! We would like to swin in our pool sometime this summer......please help

My intex saltwater system pool is cloudy

The chlorine level maybe too low and it is allowing algae to start growing.
Check the Ph level, it should be around 7.
Check the chlorine level in the pools water, use your chlorine test kit.
Check the salt levels, make sure it is at the correct concentration, too low a salt level and the Intex will not be able to generate enough chlorine.

Our pool is cloudy, we got rid of the alge but cannot clear the pool. Have had this system over a month and still not clear . Followed install directions but no luck

This is a sign of not running the system long enough... 1st, make sure you have the correct amount of salt... The manual is very conservative... I have a 18 X 33 oval pool and I run my pump in the summer at 10 to 12 hrs with the chlorinator at 8 to 10 of those hrs and have very clear water.. If I drop from those hrs, my water starts getting cloudy and the sides of the pool get green...
Hope this helps and if it does, please rate!!!

Cloudy and green water already put algae in pool

you may need to re-fill the pool now? the filter has not done its job fully and you havent tested the water,,for PH? or you would have spoted this comeing,,,the pool will need extensive filtering and cleaning now plus lots of chemicals put in it before you can use it

After 5 days using saltwater system water is cloudy. Before installing new system no cloudy water. Help.

Intex salt water system does not keep your pool cleaner. It is only a means to not have to buy liquid or tablets
If your salt is not at 3000ppm not below 2700 not above 3800 you will not generate enough sanitizer ( chlorine )

You need a good stabilizer to help hold chlorine content and a good non foaming algecide which you would use every 5-7 days

Don't forget chlorine consumption is caused by many factors.

# of swimmers, heat, sun, rain, did any one sneak in with sun tan oils and so on and the worst thing for a pool is to not use it on a daily basis.

Get your money back on the salt system and go with what worked for you.

salt does not solve your problem.
People do no realize that all the salt does for you is that it eliminates having to pour regular chlorine in.
Everything else stays the same as a normal pool with just plain ole h2o

The dilema is that intex filters are to small for the job that needs done especially in your case now that you have the dreaded green monster

your solution is to first get it cleared up
shock your pool with 2 gallons of liquid chlorine and then filter filter filter
You will need to brush the dead algea and vaccum once or twice a day for a couple of days and you must clean that cartridge 3-4 times a day with the garden hose
you will be surprised how much green it will trap

once pool starts to clear and the chlorine level starts to come back down from Mars you can start using your generator again.
you will need to find the amount of time thatorks for you but 3-4 hours will not cut it in the hot weeks

Chlorine consumption is due to #of bathers, heat ,sun, rain so any given day will dictate a different amount of generation needed keep it high so you do not get algea again about 3.0

you also got algea because you were not stiring up the pool enough you again need to filter filter filter every day
try to find some of my other postings with more specifics

Ph level is high cloudy water

Chlorine generator systems gradual increase the water's pH. You'll need to add acid to keep the pH down around 7.4. High pH can lead to cloudy water so get the pH balanced and you should be ok.
