SOURCE: start/stop button problem will the machine run on its own

You have to unplug the power cord to the the foot pedal. The manual doesn't include this. And good stinkin luck with Sears or Kenmore customer service! Just pull the cord out of the machine and the start/stop button will work. Try it on a slower setting at first though. Also, if you need additional presser feet, Singer, Brother, Janome, and possibly other brands will usually work as long as they are the snap on type. I really do like my machine, good luck with yours!

The owner's manual probably has a troubleshooting section. If the machine is giving an error, search for that error:

My foot pedal won't stop the machine from running when I release it.

I just fixed a Bernina foot pedal with this problem. There is a metal piece that presses down on a small switch when the pedal is released. The switch wasn't being pressed down hard enough to completely disconnect the power. As a result the machine kept slowly sewing when the pedal was released. I bent the metal piece down slightly with needle nose pliers so the switch would be fully pressed when the pedal is released. The hardest part was opening the foot pedal because there were no visible screws. I used a flathead screwdriver to pry the base off the foot pedal at the pivot points.

E 1 error message

Make sure you lower the presser foot before continuing the operation.

The foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button

was pressed if the foot controller is not connected)

and the reverse/reinforcement stitch button
was pressed while the presser foot was raised.

I am getting error message E4 when foot pedal is plugged in. Unplug the foot pedal and the machine goes back to normal with the exception that you really can't sew without the foot pedal.

Your reverse reinforcement stitch button was pushed or needle position was pushed while bobbin winder was moved to the right. You can download a free manual brother-usa.com and you will see all of the troubleshooting and error messages there

What does error E1 mean on a brother CS6000i

hello, the E1 code simply means the machine is working so hard, you can follow the information below to help you fix the problem,

The instructions for bobbin winding tell you to click the start button for the bobbin to wind. When you do that you get that E1 with a beeping. What they don't explain is that in order to press that "UP" arrow button to get the bobbin to wind..........you need to UNPLUG the foot control. So, in other words it to be used for sewing w/o a foot pedal. Now instead of doing as per instructions, assuming you've plugged everything in (foot pedal), after winding is finished just press the foot pedal and your off and running or sewing as the case may be. BTW, look it up in the TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION OF YOUR MANUAL.
please kindly rate the solution if it;s helpful,

take care.

I have a brother ce4000. I am getting an e1 message every time I push the pedal. I have the foot in the down position. I have sewed something heavy and the automatic stop mechanism has been tripped. How do...

Page 62 of the manual does not have any reference to E1 requiring a re-set.

E5 does state to unplug the foot control and use the start-stop button. This might work as a re-set.

With the foot pedal disconnected from the machine, push the button with the - and upward arrow. to stop sewing use the same button. It is the first button closest to the needle.
