What makes a compressor fan not run while the compressor is running

if the fan next to the compressor is not working you need to replace it otherwise the compressor will get hot due to no cooling air above also make sure the condensing coil is also clean for proper circulation you should have your unit working if you follow this steps...good luck

Make sure the compressor is running it should be vibrating and get warm after a few minutes. If it is indeed running the smaller tube to the compressor should be getting warm if not it could very well be the compressor has stopped pumping. If the fans are not running they could be controlled from the control board and will come on when the sensors on the evaporator get to a certain temperature. I does sound like the compressor is the problem.

Dose compressor fell too hot ? There could be several things wrong. First you will need to get out your Volt meter to make all test. With unit calling for freeze cycle the condenser fan and compressor should be running. Check at the compressor to make sure your getting power to the over load switch and then through it to compressor. if not then check to see if compressor is to hot and has the switch open> If so then unplug unit to let compressor cool down so switch will close. when switch closes plug unit back up and start up unit check to see it compressor starts if so then you will need to see what is causing compressor to over heat. could be dirty condenser, low charge, fan dropping out, Bad compressor.

If you are talking about the outdoor fan then if the fan is running the compressor should also be running. First check the capacitor and make sure no wires got pulled off. Some units use a 2 pole capacitor that runs the fan and compressor. The terminals will be Com, Herm (compressor), and Fan. If no wires are pulled off then check the capacitor and make sure the surge didn't ruin it. Let me know what you find or if you are talking about the indoor fan.

The fan is controlled by the by the electronic control located in the back by the compressor.

If the fan is running all the time there is something we need to determine before replacing parts.

Is the compressor also running all the time? The inside fan should run at the same time as the compressor, if they are both running then check and clean the coils behind the freezer. If they are clean and both running then check the door seal to make sure it is not broken or torn. If all these are okay then the compressor is just wearing out and getting inefficient.

If the compressor is not running and the inside fan is running the problem is within the control board down by the compressor, this is a replace only component and runs about $180.00

Pull the refrig out , and remove the back panel . Is the compressor running ? Is it hot ? Is the fan cooling the compressor , running ? If the compressor is not running , the piece on the side , with 2 or 3 wires going to it , is bad . If the fan is not running , replace the fan motor . The part number for the compressor piece ( overload/relay kit ) is 12002784 . It is easily replaceable . If the compressor is running , check the square black coil box ( condensor coil ) , to make sure it is clean . Is clean , check the fan in the freezer , to make sure it is working .

are you speaking of the outside fan or inside? compressor should be a little warm but not boiling hot. the unit could be low on freon. if low it will run a while but the compressor will overheat and shut off leaving the fan running by itself ouside. if nothing outside is running check power. if you have power check the contacted outside to make sure it's pulled in. contacters are bad about going out on goodman untis. Also ants can get under contacts.

when the freezer is not freezing, check the fan and fan motor in the freezer section. It should be running when the compressor is running. Check for frost. If you see frost on the rear inside panel, the frost is usually about 3 in. thick on the inside. Check and make sure the fan next to the compressor is running, if your's has one. It will run when the compressor is running. Check for gaps in your door gasket. If there is no frost, both fans are running, compressor is running, and no gaps, and your coils outside the refrigerator are clean, it doesn't sound good.
