Trying to get wifi at a little building I have. A buddy told me that I can take a satellite dish and wireless adapter and get the wifi within a mile radius. Is this true?

That sounds a bit far-fetched. There are boosters and amplifiers that can increase wifi range omnidirectionally (within a radius), but a satellite dish would form a more or less focused beam in a narrow beam. If you wanted to send a signal from your home to that building, a dish may well work, and since the beam can be directed specifically at the building, it would be harder to intercept and hack the signal unless you were sitting in the path of the beam. Satellite dishes work in the Gigahertz ranges, so albeit there may be some loss of signal since the dish may not be tuned to the exact frequency of the adapter, if the power level is acceptable, the boost factor of the dish focusing the beam should overcome most of the loss caused by a frequency mismatch.

SOURCE: how do i download songs from my directv to my computer

Do you have a separate Internet Service Provider or does Direct TV provides the internet access ? Songs from Direct TV are usually of different format and compression so I doubt that it can be downloaded to your computer even wirelessly

SOURCE: I am not able to connect through internal

Locate the wireless switch and turn it on? if it is on you might need to reset the modem from your service provider. Just go and hit the reset button on the modem or turn it off completely. Power it up again and make sure that the switch is turned on if you have one for this lap top some are automatic.
The switch is usually located on the left or right front of the lap top housing in the front or on the keypad. You may have to push the FN key if the key is blue highlighted. Hit FN and press the wireless key if applicable. Make sure all is on and switched then reset the wireless modem or connection.

Is WIFI installed and ready to go withthis OS?

The OS itself does not contain wifi. Wifi is hardware that is installed in the device. AS far as the OS is concerned, yes the OS does support the wifi networking protocols. You MAY have to load the wifi adapter driver(s) for you device if Windows does not have a native one that is compatible, however. You can determine whether or not the driver is installed by going to the DEVICE MANAGER and looking at NETWORK ADAPTERS. If there is no wireless adapter present or there is an exclamation mark alongside the adapter, then you need to load the driver to get wifi functionality within the OS.

Dell 2155cn

You can make your printer WiFi compatible by connecting it to your wireless modem/router using the Ethernet port on the back of the printer, if the printer is located within a reasonable distance from the modem/router. The cost of an Ethernet cable (even a longer one) is probably less than the cost of the wireless adapter (I assume you have not bought the adapter yet).
To find out if the wireless adapter is compatible with your printer, you can call Dell technical support (for the printer or the adapter).

Hope this helps.

Toshiba Satellite C655-S5125 -

The Toshiba Satellite has a helpful program -- the Toshiba Wireless Manager -- to eliminate some of that frustration. Connecting to a wireless network using the built-in wireless usb wifi adapter on a Toshiba Satellite may require making some initial changes to the Satellite's settings. These changes can be made using the Toshiba Wireless Manager. As with all wireless networking, the settings of the laptop must match the settings of the network.

My Toshiba satellite laptop constantly cant find networks even though it is within the 50 ft. Radius

From my experience with Toshibas is that the internal wifi cards are cheesy. They don't get the range that say a Dell does. Also WiFi extends 100 yards in a straight line and about 35 feet around the router. You might just have to move closer or get a good USB adapter.

Need to download a wireless adapter for my Gateway 830gm desktop

Are you sure there is no wireless device in the machine? Picking up a wireless connection in a desktop without a wireless device is a bit of an impossibility. Do you have a cellular device connected to the computer? Some of the cell wireless cards (Sprint for example) double as wireless cards for wifi hotspots. Many cell phones can be treated as wireless modems on your computer. Take another look and post back.
