My Sylvania 6842 PEM Power will not stay on. I press the power button and the red stand-by light changes to green for about 2 seconds then reverts back to stand-by. There are not any code flashes from the stand-by light. Can anyone help me?

Try to replace all popped capacitors on the power supply board first, the tops of bad ones will be heaved up in a "bubble"

If you are certain that the capacitor is OK, there could be a different problem on the main power board or even on the sub-power board. The sub-power board should have output voltages even if the main power board is defective.

SYLVANIA 6442-pe

You need to replace the burnt out capacitor - the little blue disk on the upper left side of the power circuit board. Here's a link to a replacement that works:

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=490-4260-ND

Just solder the new one in and it should work fine. Mine works great with this replacement. Good luck

Looking for info on Sylvania 6842 PEM

This RadioShack capacitor is no good - too low a voltage rating. Try replacing it with this one, or something with the same values:

This fix worked for me. Best of luck

Wont turn on

Most common problem is a ruptured capacitor on the main power pcb. It can be seen as ruptured if you know where to look. It has to be replaced with a special type of capacitor or it will quickly fail again. If its less than a year old it is still on parts warranty.

Sylvania 6842-PEM Flickering Problem

Something is breaking down. Possibly a specific ceramic capacitor on the main power pcb that has been troublesome. Usually there is just a loud pop and the screen goes dead. If the set is less than a year old it is still on parts warranty and the technician could just change circuit boards until the problem is gone.
