Question about Panasonic DMR-ES20EG DVD Recorder

DMR-ES20 won't play dvd's when connected to new HD TV

I have a new HD TV and have connected the dmr-es20 to it, but am not hooking it up to the cable box. The DVD wants to reinitialize, but of course can't "find" channels. I just want to use it now for playing DVD's. When I try I get a "can't read this region" error message (and I'm using a Region 1 DVD from the local library!)

I'm not trying to hack anything; I'm in the US, the DVD is a region 1. I just want the DVD player to work with the new DVD for playing dvd's without hooking up to the cable box. The Panasonic instructions give no info on how to do this. I shouldn't have to reset the DVD player just because there's a new TV (or should I?) In any event, what I'm doing is legit! Thanks.

Re: DMR ES20 I have had this dvd player since 2005, and recently hooked up a new HD TV to it, bypassing the cable box (I now have DVR on cable). I just want to use the ES 20 to play DVD's. But the first time I turned on the player with the new TV it asked to reset, but of course it can detect no channels (because I am bypassing the cable box). And if I just insert a DVD (a region 1, and I'm in region 1--US), it states that it cannot read the DVD, wrong region. Something is wrong and the manual is of no help. I am not trying to hack, just trying to get the DVD player to work directly plugged into the TV. Thank you.

Thank you for the suggestion. Now, I've downloaded the software, but how do I install it on the DVD?? I've never noticed a USB connector, the DVD is in an awkward place (a resolvable situation, though); do I need a different kind of connector?

This error was coming up quite often. If you haven't done so already, you should install the latest firmware for your recorder. This is the URL for the webpage:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Video/DVD-Recorders-Players/DVD-Recorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.DMR-ES20S.D#ts

Download and install the latest driver. Also, per page 32 of the manual, go to the setup menu and choose Restore Default Settings. This worked for a lot of people as well.

The Restore Default Settings fix seemed to help a lot of people fix this issue. For some reason a lot of people had this same issue with your model, but were able to do the restore. Good luck and I hope it works for you. If not let us know and we can provide further support.

Sorry about that I should have included the instructions for that. When you click on the download link at the site I gave you another window opens with an agreement you have to apply. There are 2 links, one for the download, one for the instructions. I didn't read them all but I believe you have to burn the file to a dvd or cd and then there are steps you take to have the recorder play that disc and load the update. Please let me know if you have any problems.

Panasonic dmr es20 frozen

Hello
Unplug the DMR from AC mains socket, and replug it after 5 minutes. If this does not help you, make a factory reset to this set. Get into the user manual, and there is proceedings how to do the factory reset.

Panasonic DMR-ES20 no longer plays back picture on any DVD. Sound works fine, but no picture. Have tried with component, S-Video and RYG cables, but no picture.

I just had the same problem, Tried a bunch of things, ended up just unplugging it, letting it sit for a min and plugged it back in...fixed.

Video out problem

I own a DMR-ES20 and had that problem. Panasonic Customer Service gave me a fix that works.
On the unit itself, press STOP and PLAY at the same time for about 10 seconds. This fixed my player.
