My nikon f55 wont focus

Hi there! I'm in despaerate need of some help. My nikon f55 won't focus (even in manual or automatic mode).
I haven't used the camera in a while, and the last time I did, it didn't have any problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi! Sorry for the late reply.
My camera won't focus when in auto mode, although it is fine in manual mode.

SOURCE: Nikon N55 Won't take picture in Auto Focus Mode?

There was a recall on the N55 due to auto focus problems. You can do a google search or nikon.com email the support team and they will send you the paper. This is what I did, I wasn't charged since I had the correct papers. I, however, used one roll of film and my focus went out again! Mine doesn't even work on manual... If you want to try that maybe you will hae better luck than me. GOOD LUCK!

I would like to know if a 24mm Nikon f2.8 Ai Manual Focus Lens will work on a Nikon N75 SLR Camera

Yes and no. It will fit and you can take pictures with it. You'll have to focus manually, of course, and you won't get any exposure help from the camera's light meter. You'll have to use the camera in the Manual exposure mode, setting the shutter speed on the camera body and the aperture by turning the ring on the lens and, as I said earlier, without any help from the camera's light meter.

Why wont my Nikon af nikkor 70-300mm G lens autofocus its self with my D5000 camera

The D5000 does not have a focus motor in the body, relying on the lens to have one. The old 70-300mm G lens does not have a focus motor, relying on the camera to have one. Thus, this combination will not autofocus.
The newer 70-300mm AF-S G lens, as well as the even newer 70-300mm VR AF-S lens, do have the autofocus motor and thus will autofocus on the D5000.

I have a Nikon D80. When I went to use it recently (having charged the batteries) - the shutter would not release every time. I can find no reason for it - it is an intermittant fault. Can you help?

The shutter will not release if the camera is unable to obtain focus. If the switches on both the camera body and the lens (if equipped) are set to auto focus, the camera will prevent the shutter from releasing. The most common cause of a focus problem is the lack of light. The "focus assist" light on the front of the camera will come on automatically for a moment in dark places to help the camera gather enough light to focus. If you haven't disabled the light in the menu, make sure it isn't obstructed.

You can override the whole auto focus issue by setting the switches on the camera / lens to "manual focus" instead. Of course, this means that you are shifting the responsibility of focusing from the camera to you. The camera will release the shutter every time in this situation.

If you still have problems, provide the mode you're running and the lens you're using & I'll try to help out some more. I hope this helps & good luck!

Automatic mode is not working and the manual mode

The manual can be had from Nikon directly, here. The blurry results are probably due to an improper mode focus selection. Are you using a supported lens? A list of supported lenses is provided on pg. 157 of the manual, but this chart is easier to understand. Some lenses have an Auto / Manual focus selector switch. Some are shown as "A-M" or "A/M-M". Set an A-M switch to A or if A/M-M to A/M for Auto focus. Additionally, auto-focus is only supported on Nikon compatible lenses that bear the AF-S or the AF-I mark with built-in motors. If you've got a compatible lens attached, there may be a setting in the menu that is causing a problem. It will be far easier to simply reset the camera to factory default state than try to go through them all. See pages 119 & 124 for the Reset Shooting Options and Reset Setup Options procedure, and try shooting again.

Hopefully that will get you going.

The F55 was known in North America as the N55, and you'll find a manual for it at

You can find the manual for the Nikon N55 at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/nikon.htm

The N55 and the F55 are the same camera; the N55 name was used in North America and the F55 name in the rest of the world.

Ive got the nikon d40. when i take photos close up they are blurred. there r 2 settings on the focus lense one is letter a one letter m. you have to move switch to indicate one or other. camara wont take...

The letters you're referencing is the M/A (manual / auto) focus switch. The lens has this switch and operates in Auto Focus mode when set to "A" and manual focus mode when set to "M".

You have to manually focus on the subject when in letter "M". If you do not, the result will be out of focus. From your description, it sounds like the camera / lens combination is attempting to focus and operate the shutter in auto, and focusing in manual; but due to some type of damage resulting from possible mishandling, exposure to dust, dirt or even moisture is interfering with the successful completion of the process.

You could isolate the problem to determine if the cause is in the lens or camera by simply attaching the lens to another compatible Nikon camera or placing a different auto-focus lens on your D40. The problem will either stay with your D40 or follow the lens when attached to a different camera. It is also *possible* that due to numerous attempts of auto-focusing with your D40 & lens combination, that both the lens *and* the camera have been damaged. If the problem is severe enough, the problem in the failed device could cause failure in the otherwise normally working device, too.

You might be best served by contacting Nikon Service & Support below:

http://www.nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-And-Repair.page

You also said you lost your manual. You can download the manual for the D40 directly from Nikon in your choice of English, French or Spanish from the link below:

Good luck!

The lens cannot automatically focus

Hi pablo_cornel, One simple question, is the camera in manual focus mode. On the right of the lens mount, as you look at the camera is a switch that reads AF and M. If that switch is set to M you are in manual focus mode. Also, does the 18-55 mm lens have a manual override switch?
