The new 4GB card is likely an SDHC card (see if SDHC is printed on the card). Although it looks the exact same as a standard SD card, its file format is different. Your camera was designed before the SDHC format came out. Unfortunately your camera is not compatible with this card, and there is no way to make it work. Instead consider the wide availability these days of low-cost 2GB standard SD cards. These will work with your camera, and happily only cost about $7 including shipping:
And hang onto that 4GB SDHC card. It will be compatible with all future cameras that you may purchase.
