Hi, if it cut out whilst running it has either ran out of fuel or ignition. Please make sure you have plenty of fuel in it. This sounds like an ignition problem. Take the plug lead off the spark plug and stick a metal blade screwdriver into the end of the lead, then hold the screwdriver close to any piece of metal on the cylinder head close to where the spark plug screws in and get some one to crank it over by pulling the cord and holding the throttle as if you were trying to start it. You should get several sparks to jump from the screw driver across to the metal. If not you have a problem that involved a considerable amount of knowledge and stripping down of the engine covers etc to get to the offending items.

I have a 2003 yamaha big bear and it starts but backfires and sputers. We adjusted the valves and cleaned the carb and the problem stoped but then did the same thing.

I would change the spark plug this is probably not the problem but I have had them look alright but give me some of the same issues. To me it sounds like a carb issue. If it starts and idles but won't run good at higher rpm's then it could be the main jet getting clogged or the float bowl sticking and not letting enough fuel in. You may need to add a fuel filter to the line. You may want to check your timing also.

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

it is a garantee that the main jet is stoped up with that grayish dried gas minerals..this not in the main jet valve you can remove, but actually in the bore on the carb body... you can try to use torch tip cleaner to open the hole ...hope you the best ....it is a very hard substance...someone tried starting the bike after being set up for a while without removing carb and cleaning first.....sincerely;R.B.V.

A friend cleaned the filters and changed plugs when it started putting out back smoke. Shortly thereafter it starting losing power and put out more black smoke . He said the deck was dragging and the pugs...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Since you are seeing smoke, it is usually a sign for rich gas and air mix. This could be caused by a choke that is slightly closed, a defective carburetor, or the carb may just need adjusted. You need to make sure the choke is completely open though. I would suggest cleaning the carb and adjusting it if necessary. Refer to your manual for the correct procedure. Check around your cylinder, head, and the shroud of the mower. Make sure the cylinder has nothing on it to cause smoking. See if cleaning the carb helps the performance. You may need to change the plug wires, if you didn't the first time. You could have a bad plug wire. Sometimes you get bad plugs but it is very rare to do so.

Honda125 nsr 2001 /will not start ? we have petrol and spark but it will not start / stoped it whent in house came out later and it would not start ?// just cant make it go !!!

Assuming nothing mechanical changed, if you have spark and think you have gas the problem is probably gas. I keep a squirt bottle (obtainable at hobby shops) just for problems like this. Get access to the carb and check the choke action. If the choke is not the problem, then take the squirt bottle, fill with gas, and squirt some in the carb. If it starts now, you can try spraying carb cleaner in the carb. Otherwise, I would say you need to clean the carb jets. Some dirt is keeping the gas from getting to the venturi.

Please tell me your closest technitian in Norcross; Georgia 30093 My Chain Saw is not turning on

i cant tell you were to look but i can tell you what to look at on the saw to try to fix it,,,,first change the spark plug and check for a spark by holding the plug on the cylinder head and cranking the motor over,,,hold it down tight or it will bite you?
then check you have a clean carb and that the fule pump rubber is good,,its under the cover were the fule pipe fit on the carb clean the carb out as well,,clean the air filter out,, then give it a go starting her up,,if she runs but keeps stoping get a small screw driver and find the two small screws on the side of the cover,, one is for slow running,,one it for top reves,,,undo the slow running screw till the saw ticks over without stoping,,then hold the triger full open and addjust the full throtol screw till it wont rev any higher,,,dont have the chain brake on at all so watch your self,,,,,cutting a leg off hurts im told????

It ran but smoked then stoped and would not start

Chances are oil is in the combustion chamber and carb. Spray some carb cleaner in the carburetor throat and around the perimeter of the carb then pull out the spark plug and spray some inside the hole, proceed to pull the start cord a few times then reinstall the spark plug then start the unit up it may continue to stall over and over until the oil burns off. you may want to try reving up the motor as best you can while you block off the carb intake (you must remove air cleaner to do this)this will stall the motor restart, blocking off the air intake of the carb as it runs clears out clogged passages in carb by causing a extreme vacuum in the carb throat, have a can of starting fluid handy to get the unit started if it becomes flooded, also the way to get a flooded engine started is to open the throttle all the way while starting then hold it open until it revs up. If it becomes flooded do not choke repeat these steps it should eventually clear out and run.
