Basically, if your new iMac has the new Intel processor (or any Intel based processor Macs) your Virtual PC v7 will not work on it. It is designed for iMacs/Macs that are not Intel Based machines (that run on the Motorola processors like the G3, G4 lines, etc).
All Intel based iMacs/Macs are capable of running Windows using a Dual boot startup that is available at the Mac Store or online. Check the Apple website for instructions, they are always updating the software. :)

How do I transfer my Tree Maker files from my PC to my iMac.

Family Tree Maker has a Mac version of their software available on their website.
This link also provides some possible solutions for your situation for converting PC version to Mac.

http://ancestry.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3916

If you have any reason to not switch to the Mac version of Family Tree Maker, or have other PC software that may not not be available for Mac, there is an easy solution for this as well, but does require purchasing a copy of Windows. You can install Windows as a second operating system on your Mac to support those applications not compatible with Mac. This can be done using the built in "Bootcamp" utility on your Mac. This allows you to boot to any version of Windows or Linux, as well as your Mac OS. Another method is to install "Parallels" for Mac, which also allows you to install multiple operatings systems, but with the added ability to Mac OS X and Windows simultaneously.

Just got an lg ge20 not working on mac

I wish I could tell you that your Mac is compatible with the LG GE20 20X DVD Burner but unfortunately it is not.

Here are the system requirements for this burner
LG GE20 20X DVD Burner Technical Specifications

The CD included is not the only item that is not compatible with the Mac, it is also the DVD burner itself. It is only windows compatible I'm afraid.

However, I do know that the Apple.com online store, has a comparable DVD+RW burner, the
LaCie 22x d2 DVD+RW with LightScribe
which will work with your iMac.

This is a genuine incompatibility issue.

If you had an Intel iMac, there actually is a workaround process where virtual machine software, like VMWare Fusion or Parallels, could be installed, with a version of Windows XP, Vista, or 7, display as a 2nd terminal within a Mac OS X desktop.

What's makes this effective, is that the LG GE20 could work with a windows virtual machine and because software like VMWare for example, can share devices, including optical CD/DVD drives, the Mac could share that drive with the windows virtual machine.

But since you do not have an Intel iMac, unless I am reading the description of your Mac computer(Apple iMAC Mac Notebook) incorrectly, the LaCie burner information, I provided above, would be the best option for your model of iMac.

Again, if I have described your model of Mac incorrectly let me know and I will be glad to assist further.

This is a question from a friend of mine who recently was given a used imac. Any ideas what he can try doing? when I plug it in and turn it on I get a grey screen with a little icon in the middle (looks...

What your friend is seeing, is an indicator that the Mac 333 Mhz, is not able to boot up to recognizable Mac OS volume. This means that Mac OS volume is either damaged or has some how been corrupted.

Apple advises the only fixes for such an issue with this class of their "legacy computer" series is to back up the data on the hard drive if possible and reinstall the Mac OS version is was operating with, or simply go a step further and upgrade to the highest version of the Mac OS X family of operating systems, that this iMac G3 qualifies for.

Here is a link from Apple support for resolving this issue for this legacy mode;
Macintosh starts up to Grey Screen

If your friend is interested in knowing what is the highest version of Mac OS X he can install on his iMac 333,, it would be Mac OS X 10.3 Panther.

This version is the highest upgrade for the iMac 333 because Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger will only work with Macs that have a built-in Firewire port.

Here is the technical specifications link from Apple for this model:
Technical Specifications - iMac 333 Ghz (1999)

This should help.

Isight intermittent. G5 Imac 17" The Isight cam I have now dubbed 10sec cam turns off and has to be restarted.

I understand from your problem statement that the internal iSight camera in your G5 iMac turns itself off around 10 seconds after you turn it on.
Create a new temporary user in System Preferences / Accounts. Log out and then log in as this user. Enable the camera. Does it still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, something running in your other user account (a startup program or system preference) is interfering with the operation of your camera.
If you have a spare external drive, install a fresh version of the Mac OS on that drive, then boot from that drive. Does the camera still turn off in 10 seconds? If not, you should run an OS installation with "archive and install" on your internal drive. If it does, you have a hardware problem that requires a Mac tech. If this is indeed a G5 iMac, the repair will likely not be cost-effective.

Can I use this software on a new MAC laptop?

You have to purchase the MAC version of the software. You can install Virtual PC on the MAC, then you can install any windows software and run it on your MAC in the Virtual PC mode. Beware that Virtual PC uses a lot fo resources while running.

Will virtual pc for mac v7 work with powerbook g4 running 10.4.11

Sorry, but the G4 and G5 desktops have chipsets released prior to the Intel agreement allowing pc's with CoreDuo and Macs with DualCore chips to exchange data, even though Virtual PC for G3 through G5 chipsets did work in running MS OS's prior to Vista, including XP, on mac platforms.

Now, if this helps, you might be able to secure an older version of Virtual PC, since your version works on current Macs and PCs with Vista, to run XP on your G4 and G5.

Virtual PC 7

What type of Mac is it? PowerPC G4, Laptop, etc? You can copy the files from the Mac partition to the mounted Virtual PC volume and have the XP side find the new files. It is duplication but it is the only way I have found to work without causing other problems.
