Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

2 Answers

Webpages, youtube/facebook have stopped loading and pages freeze

We recently upgraded to explora 8, we also had a trojan but pretty sure we cleaned it out and have AVG installed and scans as scheduled. We're cleaning out temp files and checked with our ISP that our download limits ok and checked our speed but for the past two weeks the download/upload and general speed have been getting worse. Now the pages completely freezes before I can opens fully.

We're not tech savvy so help would be greatly appreciated.

Please do the following:

Uninstall Internet Explorer 8
1- go to Control Panel
2- click on icon to "Add/Remove Programs"
3- make sure "show updates" has a check mark at the top (the list will take a few seconds/minute
4- Scroll down until you see Internet explorer 8 (you may see more than one entry, focus on the main one, not the patch or update ones)
5- click on it and choose Uninstall/remove
6- you may get a warning and further it will state it will put back Internet Explorer 7 on your system. Answer yes or ok.
7- The uninstall is proceeding. At the end, it will say it needs to restart your computer.

Now, your computer will start up stating configuring Internet Explorer (this is normal). Follow the above steps again and look down the list of installed programs for any other antivirus programs other than AVG and uninstall those as well. :)
From this point forward, ignore any Microsoft updates asking to install Internet Explorer 8 on your computer (always cancel this installation). Let us know if you encounter anything else that's a problem afterwards.
You may also want to purchase "Norton Anti-Virus 2009" (should cost 29-49). Please make sure its called "Norton AntiVirus 2009" only. :) Let us know how it goes and rate us.

I do I stop my newfeed from spinning on facebook?

Hello Michelle
Is this on a phone or a computer? You need to clear all your cache and internet history. Something in there is confusing the feed. I am presuming that the internet is working okay and you can access webpages?

Facebook page is flashing and I cant type in my password

Is this only happening with Facebook, or does it affect other web pages? I've recently been having a similar problem with the flashing address-bar on various webpages at random, and I've experienced the same problem using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Opera. I have found that pressing the <esc> key or the <ctrl> key will stop the flashing address-bar so that I can type input again ... until it happens again.

I'm still looking for a real "fix", but I hope this helps!

My girlfriends pc suddenly stopped connecting to the facebook site, she was on it one day and it cut her off and suddenly from her pc she can't connect to any pages of facebook. no login page no homepage...

I have notice this problem to as well. Last week especially, what facebook said, "That they was under going maintenance and taking some of the servers offline. Now this week I am having no trouble. There are several reasoning here. The first step is to try disabling your fire wall on your computer. Secondly, try cleaning the cache under the tools options and click on Internet Options. Then you click on clean cache memory. If that doesn't work try rebooting your internet connection either your dsl or cable internet by unplugging it for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

Kindle 3 is one hour old and the screen has frozen as I was trying to access Facebook. It says Invalid Certificate but I cannot move off this. Please Help.

You can't access pages like facebook from a Kindle, it will only load very simple text webpages, nothing as complicated as facebook.

To reset the device you need to just slide the power switch at the bottom, slide it to the right and hold it in that position for at least 15 seconds, you will see the device reset.

Please let me know if you have further questions, but the Kindle 3 is only meant for extremely simple text based webpages at this time, and special amazon formatted pages.

Please make sure you rate my answer 4 thumbs up, it is extremely important to me. I would be forever grateful if you could do so. If you need more help on this question please just respond to my answer here and I will get right back to you.

Facebook freezes entire window after first page

Hi! FaceBook is stopped working either due to server busy or browser mal-fuction with FaceBook web such as like trojan virus which changes DNS and apart from this, there may be chances for tracking of your id by some one else and place routine check of register keys in system and usage of anti-virus.

Facebook won't open up. I keep getting an error on page. Also my profile pictures appear blank with a red cross.

Sounds like you have been hit with a Trojan.

The idea behind a Trojan is that you are provided with a login page that appears to be Facebook but is not. When you login, you are really just handing over your login credentials to whoever setup the attack. The problem with Trojans is that they can't completely mimic your Facebook page. They don't have that info. ...which is why the profile pic appears blank.

If you are using a bookmarked url or you are selecting one from your recent history list, I would recommend typing in manually.

If that doesn't work, you might try loading an alternative web browser like Firefox. (I'm just thinking out loud here, but I would think that if you installed a new web browser that it would be unlikely to be hacked.)

If you get in and that fixes your problem, then change your password IMMEDIATELY.
