You need to flash the bios to a newer version for this cpu to be supported by your motherboard. Your descriprtion says asus so go to www.asus.com; click on the support link; lookup your specific board model #; select the operating system you are running. Download the latest bios file and follow the directions on the download site for proper flashing. Once you have flashed the bios everything should identify properly and allow you to continue setup. Hope this helps.

Unknown cpu detected asus.Bios update is required to unleash its full power.

You will get this message when you install a CPU that is not supported by the mainboard BIOS. Many older mainboards have sockets that will support much more powerful CPUs than they were originally manufactured for. In some cases, the BIOS may be upgradeable to support the new CPU, in others, the CPU may draw too much power or the mainboard chipsets will not support the CPU capabilities. If your CPU is on the list of compatible CPUs...you may need to upgrade the BIOS to support it. You will need to install a CPU that the mainboard will run with to do the BIOS upgrade prior to installing the new CPU, however.

Ensure that you download the BIOS update from the ASUS Website - nowhere else - and that it is for your exact motherboard model.

Instructions are here:

I am a bit surprised that they still require you to copy the files to a floppy/USB and boot into DOS. Last time I updated my Phoenix BIOS the utility ran from Windows. But anyway, that seems to still be the procedure for ASUS boards.

ASUS P5KPL-CM Bios Problem with Core2Duo 2.8 Ghz Processor.

I recommend going to this site and getting the latest Bios for the board.

I don't know your expertise with computers but it will require you downloading their Bios boot disk utility and creating a boot disk. then copy the Bios file to the same disk. When you boot it up it will guide you through the Bios flash process.

Be aware that you can completely kill the Bios if it has a problem during the flashing so only do it if you are positive you can get through it.

Alternately if you can push the F1 and get into the OS the Motherboard utility disk should have an updater you can use from inside windows.

Asus bios problem

Unless there is a compelling reason to update the bios it should be left alone. Apparently this is one reason for that sage advice.

Go back to asus, download an older version of the bios and install it. Fortunately you didn't end up unable to boot or you would be buying a new board.

Problem after updating asus bios

Your flash utility should have stored a backup of the previous bios image. Fire it up and see if there is a restore function.

If there is not (but I am fairly confident there is) you can order a new bios chip from the manufacturer for $15 or less...with whatever version you would like on it. I find it odd that it would not recognize your processor type.

Typically I would not flash a bios unless there is a problem in the first place.
