First go into the bios f2
set the boot record to boot from cd first
also on new computers it will say hit f 11 12
for boot order selection, but this has to be done fast before it tries to pick up on hard drive
if the cd player works ok
you should see "press any key to boot from cd" first, is the start of erasing your hard drive

GT4016 freshly reformatted with recovery CD. No drivers. No connection (to internet). Where do I find the driver (to download and burn to CD) enabling my GT4016 to connect through ethernet?

Here is a link to the drivers you need:

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn&param=1008842

Be sure to download the audio, video, motherboard and modem drivers. Just put them on a san disk or equivalent media storage device. When you have installed the drivers check the device manager to see if anything else is missing (a yellow question mark next to a device name). Hope you get fixed.

Where do I get a system recovery disc for a gateway GT4016??

Well the quick and dirty answer to this would simply be to order a replacement set directly from Gateway

If you check in with different computer repair centers in your local area, you can also check in with them, see if the technicians there keep a library of restore disks. I work at a tech shop myself, and we usually carry an extensive library of different restore disks for various notebooks and desktops.

Don't have the recovory disc

unfortunately you are looking at a complete reinstallation of windows...you were probably trying to simply revert back to an old date and mistakenly started a full system recovery. At this point you will need a Windows installation disk (perhaps that OS disk you have may do the trick). Put that in and restart the computer and press F10 to boot the computer from CD. Hopefully this will get you into an installation section for the Windows OS. This can definitely be a challenge if you don't have drivers so I suggest you get a computer person you trust to do this for you.

Have problem with windows Xp pro.

You can get the correct drivers from the Gateway website. Use another computer and download all the Windows XP files for that model number from the website. You need your model number of your pc. Get the files for your motherboard, video, sound card, network card, etc. save them to a usb key or a burn them to a cd. Take the usb key/cd to the other system and load the drivers.

This will get your system back up and running in now time.

I hope this helps you.

How to get Recovery Discs for refurbished Gateway MT3705

If the computer has the same version of xp on it that the disk has,Just restart in safe mode,Select safe mode with command prompt,When it get to the command prompt,Put the xp disk in and type
SFC /scannow
This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

Windows XP keeps a cache (copy) of these essential files at the following location:
C:WINDOWS\System32\Dllcache

But it still may ask for the disk.

Please rate this a fixya

New Hard Drive, system recovery problem

The systems disc is for the drivers and utilities, and, yes, there should have been two discs with the machine. The A45 is new enough that it should have come with an XP disc, not 98. I believe there was a mix up and you have the wrong disc. If you can get the operating system to load with the recovery disc you have, then you can get the drivers at the link below. Some two disc sets will not load an operational system unless you have both discs. Since you were running XP before, I don't think you're going to be happy with 98. I'm going to suggest that you purchase an XP disc, or contact Toshiba, and let them know that the wrong disc came with the machine, they might send you the right disc. If you do have to purchase an XP disc, simply load the system, then go to the link bellow and download the drivers. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.

Gateway desktop

Only if it's not an HP labele operating system disc. Otherwise you will need an XP operating system disc, the HP recovery disc with XP will not work with your Gateway or any other manufacturer machine other than HP. The operating system on any manufacturer recovery disc is assigned to that specific manufacturer, so if you try to install from the HP disc it might install, but it will only give you thirty days, then shut down, or it won't install at all. It will be cheaper to purchase an XP operating system disc than all the software over again just for Viiiiiista!!! (I enjoy making fun of Vista) If you have anymore questions or need help feel free to ask.

I have a Gateway Desktop PC.(831GM) I used Internet Explorer as my browser and now I can't access it. My ISP is Verizon and they tried to re-set my computer to the original default settings but we still...

You may need to put your model number in gateways website and download the drivers to a thumb drive or burn to a cd before attempting this.

The fastest resolution to this problem is to take a respective windows disk (make sure you check your key on the side of the tower and see if it says xp home or xp professional) whichever you have get a windows disk the same as this and boot from the windows disk first it will ask you if you want to boot from cd press any key do so. then it will load drivers. it will then ask you if you want to load the recovery console or if you want to install windows, press what key it says for installing windows. it will then check for previous versions of windows xp on the computer. eventually it will pop-up with a license agreement, press F8 to accept. then if you used the appropriate disc (XP or PRO) it will then ask if you want to repair the previous installation of windows. press r for repair. it will then begin the repair copying files then rebooting. do not remove the disc and do not hit a key when it asks if you want to boot from the cd rom at this point. it will do it's thing for about 2-5 minutes. at this point it will ask for a license key which you will type in from your key located on the outside of the case. hit enter it will continue, if it has a question about network settings tell it to use defualt. if any other pop-ups appear between now and reboot cancel the pop-up. it will reboot and again do not boot from the cd let it time out, and done you will be in windows xp. install all drivers needed and run automatic updates if auto updates do not work google: automatic update repair batch file. there are a few out there that will auto clear the cache for updates. after running it for a while and a couple more reboots then updates will function properly.
