Question about Canon PIXMA MP160 All-In-One InkJet Printer

4 Answers

Hello there Mr Expert. I have just pulled apart my MP160 to remove some material (the printer cover) which was drawn in together with the paper. After reassembling I have an error E42. Any idea what is wrong? The manual says take it to a service agent but we are in a remote location so would be troublesome... Appreciate any suggestions to try. Thx barry

Hi there,

Erro code 42 error definitely caused by loose flat cable or the ribon cable, check for any loose and attach it again. Also this could be a problem with the cable it could be the contact with is damaged and need to be replaced.

This cable need to connect electronics on your printer.

How do you take apart acanon mp160 printer, I

Hello there This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

How do i clean underside of platen glass Canon MP160

for mp160, flip the cover open, the one that you open to gain access to the ink cartridge. you will see two screws at the underside of the scanner base. unscrew both. gently pull down at the front control panel and pop up the front lip of the plastic that holds the platen glass. then, at the back of the printer, adjacent to the paper loading tray, just below the platen glass cover, you will see two clip like stuff. remove the tray by pulling it upwards vigorously but firmly. then, get a flat screw driver to pry these up to release the lock. then, facing the printer, gently pull the whole of the platen glass, together with its plastic frame, towards you. do this while gently rocking the platen glass up and down, or left and right. to return the platen glass, reverse the process.

The following a step by step instructions for the printer issue:
First Set Prevent paper abrasion (Windows)
By using the Prevent paper abrasion function, the space between the print head and paper is increased, preventing print head contact with the paper.
When printing, if there is any foreign material (such as a piece of metal or a pencil) in the printer, the printer maybe damaged. If there is any foreign material, remove it at once.
1. Power the printer off.
2. Open the paper support and confirm that there is not any foreign material in the auto sheet feeder. If there is any foreign material, remove it by hand or with tweezers.
3. Open the front cover and confirm that there is not any foreign material in the printer. If there is any foreign material, remove it by hand or with tweezers.
4. Power the printer on and confirm that the printer operate normally.
Removing paper jam:
If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the printer, open the Top Cover and remove it. If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the printer off and turn it back on. The paper will be ejected automatically.
Paper Loaded in the Cassette Jams inside the Printer
(1) Press the POWER button of the printer to turn off the power. Then, open the Rear Cover.
(2) Fold a piece of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in four, push it in until it hits the jammed paper, then pull out the paper folded in four.
(3) Close the Rear Cover, then press the POWER button of the printer to turn on the power.
Wait until the jammed paper is automatically ejected.

Error E3 when no paper jam

MP160 PIXMA paper feed jam E3 error. I completely solved this on my Canon MP160 printer but it is a common problem and the fix may work for others such as MP130 MP140 MP145 MP150 MP170 or MP180. With the problem I had, the printer would make the usual motor whirring noises but would not feed the paper. The usual c-clunk sound that indicated the feed roller has been engaged was not there. The screen warning said to remove jammed paper and the printer showed an E3 error.

The problem was caused by the ink cartridge carrier becoming stcky on its track and not fully returning to the rest position on the right side (as viewed from the front). The fix involved taking the printer apart and lubricating the cartridge carrier track and the ramps that lift the cradle that rises to cover the printheads. Unfortunately you have to dismantle the printer and separate the scanner unit to get to the lubrication points. Its not a quick fix.

When you have the printer apart you will see a prominent white lever held by a coiled spring just behind the rest position of the ink cartridge carrier. The lever is actuated by the ink cartridge carrier when it moves to the right. If the lever is not actuated, the motor drive will never engage the large grey feed roller and the paper in the hopper cannot be fed into the printer. Make sure to also put some lube onto the lever at the point where it is struck by the ink cartridge carrier.

E3 code error mssg on printer MP160

As you will probably know E 3 on Pixma is paper jam.

Double check that there is no paper inside, and turn printer upside down shaking it a bit to check if there is any small foreign object (screws, pins, coins etc.) stuck inside.

When there is no jam in the paper path, this problem is typically caused by a broken part in the paper feed mechanism, in the page unit.
The paper feeding mechanism has two white plastic gears connected together with a central spring, near to the waste ink tank, at the bottom of the printer.
This are quite delicate, they often get stuck or boken, or you lose the spring, and the printer stays stuck with E3 error.
