Monitor screen shrinks!

Hi, been experiencing this problem, computer screen shrinks to half the full screen size, forming an hourglass shape, making it very difficult to view anything.

Was able to solve the problem once or twice earlier by unplugging and then re pluggin. But it doesn't seem to work anymore! What could be the problem??

I've got a photo of the problem if you need.

Thanks in advance!

What kind of monitor is it? LCD or other? It sounds like a CRT to me. Just need verification.

This is a electronic problem with CRT monitors and TVs.
If the distortion is not severe then you can adjust the image with the monitor settings with the front panel buttons on the monitor.
If you cannot adjust out the distortion then the monitor need repair.
The costs may not be worth it, I would put my money towards a LCD monitor.

The problem is due to under voltage. You may have an unstable power or your computer auto voltage regulator (AVR) is not doing its part..If not then you have a busted capacitor..resolder all capacitors and replace ruptured capacitors with same value and ratings..

Desktop monitor screen shrinks to an hourglass shape

Hi,
I am assuming your monitor is a CRT, if that is the case then it is failing, and the cost to repair it could be close to the price of a new one.
You can check around, but my advice is to get a new one.
I hope this was helpful

Extension cable

By all means yes. Longer VGA cables need superior shielding, and signal degrades over distance. So either get a better extension cable or move your CPU closer to the monitor and run extensions for your keyboard and mouse.

Hi, It sounds like your TV has a Pincushion problem based on your post/description. There is a big chance that this is just a colder solder/loose connection but of course an on-site diagnosis would be better. Since this involve opening the unit and working on the electronics inside, I would suggest that you seek the services of a qualified TV professional.
