Hide users, games, polls, etc.

It quickly gets annoying seeing some users posts, game invites, polls, etc. Hovering your mouse to the right of the post and clicking the Hide button as shown below can hide any post. Once this button is pressed you'll be prompted with the option to hide that user or in the case of a Facebook application the option to hide that application from ever showing up on your profile.

To unhide someone or unblock an application click the Edit Options link in the bottom right corner of the news feed as shown below.

Although Facebook does not allow the ability to hide friends getting new friends messages, friends becoming fans of something, and some application messages they can still be hidden with browser add-ons. Update your privacy settings

Use the Facebook top bar for navigation

Knowing how to properly navigate is vital if you want to get the most out of Facebook. Below is a brief description of each of the available options in the top bar as shown above.

Home (facebook logo) - Clicking this logo will take you to your wall (News Feed) that shows all friends recent posts.

Friend requests - If any friend requests are waiting to be approved this icon will show a notification of how many friends are waiting for approval. This icon can also be clicked when you want to view any friend recommendations or search for friends on Facebook.

Messages - This section allows you to send and receive private messages between one or more people you're friends with.

Modify your account notifications

Top News and Most Recent

Some of this depends on how you posted it to Facebook in the first place. Notes and private messages can be deleted fairly easily by navigating to the item in question. The exact location oft he controls depends on how far along the latest set of changes your account is. However if it has been shared or copied this might be harder.

If someone else posted your content then you will need to ask Facebook to remove it the grounds of Copyright AND privacy infringement.

1 Log-in to Facebook using your email address and password.

2 Hover over the "Settings" tab located next to your name in the blue header at the top of the page. When the drop-down menu appears, click on the "Privacy Settings" tab.

3 Click on "Search" to control your privacy settings related to Facebook and search engine searches. An "Important Privacy Announcement" issued by Facebook will pop up before you are brought to the next screen. Click the "Close" button in the lower right-hand corner of the pop-up to exit this message.

4 Change your "Facebook Search Results" settings to "Only Friends" in the drop-down menu.

5 Uncheck the "Allow" box and confirm the selection in the "Public Search Results" section to keep your Facebook profile from appearing in search engine results.

She might have some privacy setting on her facebook account if she has an option for "everyone" to be able to search for her on Facebook, you should be able to find her.

"Ironically, the answer comes courtesy of a dedicated Facebook group no less. The "How to permanently delete your facebook account" group, created by Magnus Wallin, lays our three steps to Facebook removal:
1. Delete everything that is related to your profile. That includes, but is not limited to: pictures, friends, messages, wall-posts, mini-feeds, news-feeds, posted items, interests, groups, applications, gifts....etc etc etc... Get the picture? EVERYTHING!
2. Contact the Facebook staff and request a permanent deletion of your account and that all information about you is fully erased. Of course, remember to tell them your user name.
