Question about Acer TravelMate 4010 Notebook

Can no longer connect to the internet. Cannot open

My first problem was that I can no longer connect to my wireless connection. While searching for fixes online I realized that I also cannot open the computer in safe mode nor can I do a system repair. I have also gotten the "blue screen of death". I am not an expert, if you need any codes/numbers/messages please tell me how to get you that info.

My system starts just fine. I have been burning cd's with all my photos and such trying to get everything off before it dies. When I try to logon to the internet it says that I am working offline. My SBC wireless does show up in the connections but it wont connect nor repair. Someone suggested renaming the tcpip.sys file and when I did a search to find it I would get the "blue screen of death" that would happen everytime I would try that search it also happened when I was in the add/remove hardware and tried to uninstall the paypal plug-in but it did let me uninstall several other programs. When I try the system restore it will let me pick a date to restore to but when I click next nothing happens. As for the safe mode when I do the F8 and ask it to start in safe mode it just brings up a black screen with a bunch of text and wont go past that screen.

How do you connect internet

1. Turn it on and access system settings. [[wrench icon]] 2. Scroll to page 3 and select "Internet" 3. Choose connection settings. 4. Click on "None" for "Connection 1." If you don't see "none" option for Connection 1? Make sure any existing settings don't interfere with getting connected, tap the button, then choose "Clear Settings."
5. Click "Search for an Access Point." 6. The Nintendo DSi will search for any wireless networks within range. Once it is finished searching, it will display the names of all the wireless networks it finds.Look for your wireless network.
7. What you'll do next is choose the open lock, gold closed lock, or silver lock...

Open lock: No security.
8. Select ok, save settings, then yes. Once you see connection successful... the support code is unimportant.

Can't get wireless to work on laptop

You may use the System restore utility on windows by going to all programs then Accessories... Open system Tools and then System Restore. You may resotre your system to an earlier time, time when you are still able to connect to your router wirelessly.

I am no longer able to connect my wireless router...why?

Hi canuck07,

Here's how to remove the ad-hoc setting (I'm assuming you're running Windows XP):

1) Right-click on the wireless icon on your system tray (right end of taskbar) and choose "Open Network Connections,"
OR go to Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections.
2) Right-click the wireless connection and choose Properties.
3) Select the Wireless Networks tab.
4) Under "preferred networks," select your network and click "Properties."
5) On the Association Tab, the bottom check-box corresponds to ad-hoc networks - uncheck it.

Hopefully this will make your adapter able to find your network. Please let me know if this doesn't work, or if I can be of any further assistance.
