-   My TV did the same thing. It was bought in Feb 2001 as shown on the back sticker. It started acting up by sound only for about 3 to 5 minutes when turned on. It then would work fine , but the picture would turn back off intermittently through out the evening, it came back on by itself. I would leave it on when I went to sleep. One night while asleep, my wife jerked me awake and said the TV is squeeling and chirping ??. It would not turn off by the remote or front panel button. I pulled the plug and went back to sleep. The next day I disassembled the set and found it was loaded with soot and dust. I vacuumed as much as possible and removed the control board. Marking the connectors is important. The speaker connector is fragile, there is a small tab on the side that has to be pulled out a little before it can be removed. Waiting for the meat ??. The tripler assembly arced over due to the dust accumulation. Probably blew a diode internally, needless to say, I'm on the hunt for a new tripler. It is fairly easy to remove and replace as there are only 12 or so solder connections on the PC board. I'm in no hurry to get this fixed as it is only a curiousity to me. If you find the replacement or a place where it can be purchased let me know. The numbers on the part are P/N 1536119A, RXE TCE 0108 29.0KV, DI 15356930

-   My tv, an RCA F36650, roughly 4 years old, stopped working and now only makes a rapid fire, high pitched chirping noise whenever it's plugged in. What causes this problem, and can my tv be saved for a reasonable cost?-   fievel1

Update on finding replacement tripler (Flyback Transformer) for RCA F27442tx51. This is a follow up on my report dated Jan 12 2008. Further investigation revealed the Horizontal drive transistor was also blown. It is a 2SD2578. Internet search turned up ACME ENTERPRISES in Orlando Florida. www.acme-slaes.net. Surprisingly they also sell Flyback Transformers as well as other TV repair parts. The cross reference for the needed Flyback is ACME-2236 FBK. The part number for the transistor is 2SD2578 SANYO TRANSISTOR. The price for the transistor is $2.69. The Flyback is $22.95. Shipping to CA is $6.75 and handling is $1.99. Two days after ordering, the parts were at my front door. The set works now except the picture still goes off after 5 minutes or so and then comes back on, sound still works during the dark period. The original symptoms before it blew out in the middle of the night and started chirping. I now have the set on the bench attempting to find the intermittent part. Stay tuned I'm on the hunt.

- Final Update on RCA F27442tx51 picture that turns off intermittently. Replacement of Flyback and Horizontal tranistor returned the TV to operation after initial intermittency, then burn out which caused the chirpingt. Intermittancy then returned. Running the set on the bench waiting for the picture to turn off revealed pushing on the horizontal transistor heat sink ( with a plastic insulated rod) would return the set to operation. I then turned off the set and removed the power cord and let the set sit for 15 minutes to let the capacitors discharge. I then resoldered all the connections in the vicinity of the horizontal transistor. There was one leaded resitor that appeared to have a cold solder joint under close inspection. The set is now fixed. In retro spect the Flyback may have been OK leaving the flyback transistor and resoldering the final fix.
