Question about Canon PowerShot SD100 / IXUS II Digital Camera

SD100 No fnctions are working

It turns on and will display the last picture I took. I cannot scroll through rest of pictures on card. It will not take a picture. I cannot get any of the menus to open. It is like it is in some sort of "lock" mode.

I greatly appreciate your help. The shutter does open and I can zoom. The only other things I CAN DO are : turn on and off, view last pic taken, and change modes. It seems like none of the "buttons" are working regardless of where they are located....either on back or on top.

Same problem here with my Canon IXUS 800
Only the power and shoot button works.
Zoom and the others do not respond at all.

I think its probably the circuit board moved.. if only I was able to open up the camera to get to its innards I might be able to self-repair it, but I know not how to do that

If you can’t get the manufacturer to fix it or send you the parts you may want to try and fix it yourself. I found a guy in South Carolina who sells good used parts and will give you some suggestions on how to do it yourself. I bought a LCD from him for $39.00, fixed it myself and it works great. I think his email is gerald.ray@aa-ark.com

All digital cameras with a selectable menu option have a circuit board under the case that the buttons press to work. If the circuit board has gone bad, or perhaps has only shifted, then it will not work.

Does your zoom/shutter work? And also, can you put the camera on photo mode and take photos, and use the menu buttons that way?

Here is a photo of the camera's internals. The arrows are to the parts of the circuit board that appear to be bad.
However, they are all connected via the same ribbon board to the zoom switch/power button, so there is no way to replace just the one part of the cable.

You might want to try sending it to Canon, because there are not many parts stores that will sell the board.
Sorry I can't be of much more help :(

Make sure the scene mode dial is correctly "clicked" into a choice. You could also try this...remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

Believe that may have not formatted the card in your camera when you first got it. A non-formatted card may work well at first, but often can eventually result in symptoms like your experiencing.

The first thing you need to do is to save your photos to your computer from the card. You'll need an SD card reader to do this. If you don't have one already, get one, they're cheap:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=card+reader&rs=172282&page=1&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3Acard+reader&sort=price

After you've saved your pictures, you'll need to format your card IN YOUR CAMERA. Reinsert the card in the camera. Put the camera in picture review mode. Press the Menu button. Select the tools menu, and scroll down to the selection showing the card's memory capacity. Select it, and select OK for format. NOTE this will totally erase the card, so again save your photos first before doing this.

How do I transfer pictures onto the memory card?

Go to the camera's "setup menu" and scroll down to the last option, "move images to card" That should put the images onto the memory card.
