Windows won't recognize dvd writer

Installed a new harddrive, and of course windows xp pro. Now itt gives an error of USB device not recognized ...could be malfunctioning...etc...worked fine before and in the same USB port, now I get the error message in every port I try. Email me and i will send the driver in an attachment file.please not though that the hp 740i burner is an internal I D E supported drive not a USB. as long as its a 740 model the driver should work, wether its usb or ide is up to the computer to associate it with.

My sata external usb western digital 320 gb drive only shows up as an unknown USB device. Is there any way to get my computer to recognize it. I have a laptop using windows xp. Ive tried unplugging...

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine.
try it in different usb ports.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers.
then check.
Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check.
If your harddrive still not recognized then you need to repair your harddrive.Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer then your harddrive has internal issue.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa

CD drive doesnt recognize a dvd

Sorry to say, but a CD drive cannot read DVD's. You need a DVD reader. Thus, the CD drive will not recognize DVD media and tell you no valid disc is in the drive. I recommend buying a DVD RW (reader/writer), as they are inexpensive and enable you to burn DVDs as well as read them.

Windows xp wont recognize usb connection from rave. Is there a driver I need?

If you're using the retractable usb cable that came with the player, replace it. I had the same problem. XP recognized that there was a device, but couldn't open it. I was getting a "Driver not installed" error in device manager.

Try opening up the device manager and unistall everything in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Then reboot and let windows reinstall the USB controllers. Windows should now be able to recognize properly USB2 devices.
