Hitachi DK23FB-40 not detected

My laptop can't show my external drive even after scanning for new hardware. What can I do? Thanks.

The external hard drive casing may need a driver for some operating systems

and then the unit must be in the on postion

Hitachi Hard drive DK23EB not readable -please help


Have you put the hdd from the laptop into slave mode, its on the back of the hdd, there might be a "jumper" that you need to reposition, failing that only insert the 1 hdd from the laptop and make it the only hdd, it should have an operating system on to run as normal. You can see the <jumper> on the right of this picture, you will need to connect both teminals (slave) with a little plastic jumper.

Connecting ribbon cable to a Hitachi hard drive


The Red Strip on the cable should face the Power plug on the hard drive. Most times the cable will only go one way to fit.

Maybe the cable or the usb port is broken?
Try a different usb port. and an other cable :)

Ilooked up the spec on my computer from dell (that


u need a SATA (serial ATA) drive, buy a SATA drive and its compatible with most of the computers today.

External hard drive device installer error


Has it got its own power supply or is it using a two USB ended cable. It could be your laptop cannot supply enough power via one USB port so that it really needs a two ended cable so that two USB ports will power it up. Try this Mark

You cannot usually by just the electronics. I would check places like ebay or ask Hitachi about it. The other way would be if you could find someone throwing out one of the drives where something else is bad.
