HP vs17e monitor goes black after 2 seconds.

I have the same exact problem. I also know my computer is running fine because I hooked up another monitor with no problems.

I had this same problem and fixed it. My problem was on the inverter board. The inverter board side has the pink/whit & blue/white wires plugged into it. What is happening here is the inverter is going into over voltage or open lamp mode. First thing is to check all the electrolitic capacitors for bulging or leaking (most likely not the problem here). Next thing is to touch up all the solder joints on the inverter board (there's not many). Make sure when you plug it all back in that you have the blue/white wires on the inside and the pink/white wires on the outside. If that doesn't fix it then replace the surface mount 8pin inverter chip U1 part # OZ9936GN (that's what fixed my problem). Got the part from http://www.utsource.net/

Hi..
With the dropping price of monitors today; can get a good 22 inch lcd for less than $200 in most stores, it would probably cost more to have the old monitor repaired than just replace with a new monitor.
thank u

My monitor turns on and I see the Gateway logo but then it goes off and I get no picture. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Thanks!

Hook up another monitor to the computer. If you get video then you know the original monitor is bad. If you still don't get video with the 2nd monitor hooked up then its something with the computer cause there is no video output.

In that case unseat and reseat the memory in the computer and see if you get video then, if not then the motherboard is the problem.

Monitor shows picture for 1/2 second then goes black, 22" display. also will not show display menus. have hooked another monitor up and works fine. also have hooked up to another computor and problem...

When you switch the monitors, do you still use the very same vga cable? If you don't, then it's time to change the monitor. When it turns on and off inmediately it means that it's receiving the signal, but that's it. If it's brand new, exchange it.

My PC often restarts automatically when the main supply goes.

Hook up your computer directly to a surge protector or wall outlet and leave it on for a while and see if it restarts automatically, if it doesn't then you know your computer is fine.

If your computer still restarts automatically even with it not hooked up to a UPS then you know at that point theres a problem with the computer and not the UPS backups that have been plugged up to it. At that point it can be anything from an operating system issue to a hardware issue.

Also if you can verify that the computer is fine without it being hooked to a UPS then make sure the next UPS you get you only hook up the desktop and the monitor to it. This is a good way to make sure not to many items are hooked up to it that may be drawing more amps then normal.

My EV 700 screen picture is condenced has one bright clear line in middle screen and two more lines faded, space in between lines

Sounds like a CRT problem but to be sure, hook up another monitor to the computer and if you get the same exact lines then you know its a problem with the video card, if the lines go away then you know its a problem with the monitor.
