Question about Hitachi 50VS69 50" Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Hitachi I've had my Hitachi lcd projection t.v for almost 3yrs now, and the bulb died in it, luckily the extended warrenty covered the replacement of a new bulb. but of course the company that replaced the bulb said Hitachi bulbs are very hard to get, but they used a compatible bulb. Its been a month now and I've noticed a blue glow, at first I thought it was just because the new bulb was brighter then the last one, but the blue glow is changing shapes as it grows larger over time. I am going to call the company back that replaced the bulb, I'm hoping they have an easy answer that won't cost me a fortune. But if anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix this....I'm all ears.

You need a new light engine, its possible that you might get one for free from Hitachi (under a special warr.) you will have to pay the repair shop to install it and it doesnt come with a new bulb contact Hitachi and ask about the "engine program" good luck Julio at Millenium tv (702) 736-1091 milleniumtvsvc@gmail.com

How to replace bulb?

Either under the front long cover--or on the left side. Most HIt LCD projos use a P22H 120 watt bulb, get a phillips bulb and you will be happy. Ebay sells these all over the place.

Hitachi LCD M50VS810 -- picture gradually darkened up over the past 4 days and now picture won't come on. Replace bulb?

If it uses a lamp that is possible---sets with a lamp will often dim down just before the lamp fails in a total way.

My 60 inch Hitachi has a green dot in the middle of the screen. Is it the bulb? If So can I reinstall a new one or do I need to find help for install?

Good Morning

I have bad news... The dot will get bigger and it is caused by something called an "OPTICAL BLOCK". In simple terms the block takes the 3 lcd pictures, filters them and puts them all together creating a pretty picture most of the time.

ALOT of these blocks have been failing, Sony even extended thier warrenty or is giving customers credit on the purchase of a new LCD tv of similar size. I do not know what HITACHI may or may not do for you, but it is worth a call saying you are very upset.

You can buy new blocks, they cost between 3000 and 4000 dollars. Used good ones seem to run about 1000 if you can find them, and there are a couple guys (one on the chicago craigs list alot) that will refurbish your boards from 200 to 400 dollars.

Most people cant even get the parts to repair these blocks, and from what little I can find about the repair itself you need to be VERY TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT.

Im sorry about the bad news

Poor quality color with mostly green tones

Optical Block in your TV is going bad. If you don't have any extended warranty - It is pretty expensive repair and is not worth of fixing it in most cases.

LCD rear projection tv has green and yellow discoloration at the top and bottom of the screens

This sound like a Bad Optical Block. If this is a Hitachi, and it is less than 3yrs old, I would try to see if Hitachi will help with the repairs. You would still need to get a local authorized repais facility out to comfirm it is the Opical Block. They should be able to help with that as well.
Hope this helps,

Bulb replacement

Good Day, technonot;
To replace LAMP remove Front Panel outwards until the quick snap disengages. There is small cover on the left hand side, using a philips screw driver; remove. Two more screws secure lamp, use handle to remove. ALWAYS, unplug TV from A/C power source first. Good Luck, big IRISH.

Hitachi Rear Projection LCD TV Lamp

Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.
