What maker of mower or tractor

where exactly is this push rod being used or needed
on your mower or tractor

aluminum push rod has been designed to be used there for a reason

without more information
using solid steel push rod and "in the intake" in the same place
sounds risky

The global V6 engine is the first V6 engine program to address what Thomas G. Stephens, group vice president, GM Powertrain, says is a vital initiative: to develop world-class engines with fully contemporary features - such as dual overhead cams and variable valve timing - but at a competitive cost structure that allows use of the engines in a global mix of vehicles.

I need to know the over head vave setting for the intake and exhaust on a 17.5hp Briggs & Stratton vertical shaft, single stroke lawn mower.

hi pauly46 here

set piston to tdc compression stroke then run it down the bore a 1/4 inch

set the tappetts to inlet the bottom valve ( alloy push rod ) to a tightish 0.004" and set the
ex valve the top one ( steel push rod ) to 0.005"

setting at 1/4 pst tdc eliminates decompressor from upsetting valve clearance seting

I have two rod push for a mower, one metal and the other is aluminum. do u know which goes on and the other goes on bottom

Find the intake valve...the aluminum rod operates the rocker for that valve....the steel rod is toughter of course and can handle the heat from the exhaust valve. If you have the head which valve is which will be evident...the exhaust valve will be near the muffler and sooty of course.

Welding aluminum

TIG weding is next to brain surgery as far as CLEAN goes.
You must get your AL clean, either by 1. Clean with a NEW Stainless Steel brush or 2. by using a chemical from the welding house that is made just for that.
Your cup must be clean and your gas flowing at the right amount,no leaks in o-rings or hoses.
Hold your cup more vertical and keep your filler rod in the gas shield always,no in and out movement.
In short you must get everything perfect to get quality Heliarc Al welds.
Good luck, HowardRoark
