You can disable the "Memory Guard" in the "GUI" menu. depending on the model, it's usually the last option in the setup menu. If you still have an issue, post a comment with the receiver model # and I can help you further.
You need a learning remote or a "Logitech Harmony" or a "Universal Remote Control" (Brand name) Yamaha uses "Discrete Power Commands"
You will not find those in any remote under $70 or $80.00
If you don't want to spend the money, program the Yamaha's Remote to control your devices. It will control all features and functions, it will just take some time to program. Hope this helps
(I have the RX-V659). Because the Yamaha remote has TWO SEPARATE buttons - power ON and power OFF (standby). This problem can't be fixed. There's a code to choose power ON and another code for power OFF. But one button can't be two buttons. Bad engineering\ design by Yamaha in my opinion
I too have searched the user manual on this unit, and have not found any reference to "memory guard". Can you give me more information about the feature you are trying to operate and I will try to assist you further
Here is a link to a PDF version of the manual for free. Just enter an email address and there you go.
