If knoking starts before oil pressure dropping, then your problem is caused by a bad rod bearing. If it is the rod bearings, knocks will come from the bearing inside the engine, rather that from the valves. In that case it may be a good idea looking for a second hand replacement engine rather than repairing the engine.

If the knocking comes up only after the oil pressure goes down, then it is still an oil pump problem. Check all oil lines.Have a look at the PCV valve, that can cause oil pressure to drop. Check the oil lines and test the oil pump with a hand pressure gauge between the oil lines, it must have from about 40 psi idle to 60 psi.

1. check compression all cylindars
2. Make sure the pump is actually working if the guages says you have low oil pressure then the pump is not working adequately.

Knocking on the top of engine is not a good sign at all it sounds like the pump is giving out at one point but working when you first start the car.

I would check this pump again.

What you have posted is not enough information at this time. we need more info.......

Furthermore, you have posted this info incorrectly. it is posted under the GPS device section... It should be posted in the CAR section...

    Good Luck

2002 volvo V40 wagon oil light stays on and engine is very loud

Don't drive your car!
If by 'loud' you mean there's knocks and rumbles - that sounds like serious damage caused by zero or low oil pressure. If there's no terminal damage yet caused by a lack of oil pressure .. there soon will be.

Don't drive your car. Get somebody qualified to have a look at it first. Your oil pressure warning light is on because there's no oil pressure. You're liable to destroy the engine (very quickly) if you run it with no oil pressure.

The first thing you should do is check your engine oil level. Make sure that the oil level reaches 'full' on the dipstick.

If your oil level has been unacceptably low - top up and start the engine. The oil warning light should go out within a couple of seconds. If not - it points at a problem elsewhere. Don't run your engine with the oil light on. Get a second opinion.

Knocking than oil light on just change filter and oil

Your engine is gone. Replace or rebuild. If your car is old, junk it. Time for a new one.

97 ford thunderbird 3.8 v6 has a very loud knock. any ideas?

First of all, stop driving it. Second of all, it may be that your oil pump may be going out, however unless you are a mechanic, I wouldn't go any further.

Oil knock in hot weather

Does it knock hard or just rattle loud,? A lot of cars are noisy till the oil gets pumped up top. I hate to see people floor when they first start up, very bad idea, no oil up top, anyway, your oil weight goes by the outside temperature. If you live in Florida, it gets hot, I use 10w-40 year round, up north is a different story, 5w-30 in the winter would be fine, but summer time you could go heavier no problem. My brother uses straight 30 weight with a bottle of Marvel mystery oil as the 5th qt. The stuff works great. It cleans the inside of your engine like you wouldn't believe. He is one of these guys that takes the oil filters apart to check them out. Hope this helps.

Some times it has a loud knoking when you start it up! oil presure good.

If this sound only happens when you first start it in the morning, and then goes away, then you are experiencing either lifter ticking, or piston slap. These both are fairly normal for this vehicle when it's getting higher in the miles, and before the oil gets to all the parts. Once you shut the engine off, the oil drains down, and it has to recirculate some of it. This takes a couple of seconds sometimes, and you hear this knocking sound when it happens, especially if it's cold out, or you are using thicker oil than recommended.
If the knocking sound continues after the vehicle has been running, then you need to have someone check it out for sure, because you could have a connecting rod knocking. This means that your engine is about to go, and you should not drive it.

My engine knocks loud and Í dont know what to

If the knocking is a 'tinging' sound...valves are shot. The Paseo has an issue with the head getting warped and leaking oil through the gasket, if the oil has been low too often for lengths of time the head heats and warps.
Open the oil cap and feel around inside with your finger (ensure engine is off and cooled first) rub your fingers together to feel for grit which would most likely be valve shavings. This should be easy to find since it's recently had an oil change.
Worse case scenario would be a rod broken but that would be a LOUD knocking/bonking sound and definitely expensive.

Engine knocks like diesel

A loud knocking sound could be a variety of things. On the top of the list is Bad connecting rod bearing and main bearings in the bottom end of the engine. Bad lifters may also be a problem. I had to burst your bubble but a loud noise in your engine, like you describe may be alot of pre-mature internal engine wear may be cause by lack of maintenance. You should have it check by a professional before you invest money into fixing it. Remember if the cost of the repairs exceeds that retail value of the vehicle. Its time for a new one. Good Luck

Knocking under valve cover on cold starts

Is there any smoke when you first start it? what is happening is the valve seals are probably worn and letting the oil seep past them. when your engine is first started it has no oil or very little oil at the top of the engine, thus causing the knocking noise. could be more but this is a most likely answer. oh and is you haven't changed your oil every 3,000 miles you had beeter start doing it.... answer knocking sounds usually come from bottom of engine try a better quality and correct viscosity oil
