Samsung BD-P1500. Firmare update problems

Samsung BD-P1500. It wouldn't play a recently released Blu ray disc. Inside the disc packaging there was a note saying that an update may be necessary. I downloaded the update from the Samusung site, but it seems the update didn't take. Now the Blu-ray won't communicate with the samsung TV and doesn't read any disc anymore. When I called Samsung, their "customer service" people said to google the problem for an answer. A lot of help they were!!! Is there some way to reset the system to factory settings?
