Pump it up to get some pressure, and bleed off the air. Do this until you get fuel without air. Pump the primer back up until it is very stiff and fire it up. If it tries to start and fails to do so, pump it as before and hit it again.

Do you need to prime the new fuel pump after installing?

Without knowing the vehicle a fuel injected car all you have to do is turn the key on and off 3 times for 10 seconds each. Carburetor is a bit harder. If the system does not leak cranking it can get it done but dumping a little gas in the carb will cause it to start and pump the manual pump much faster to prime the system. With a leaking manual pump it just takes a lot of cranking.

. Fuel tank must be full of fuel with the fuel shut-off valve open.

IMPORTANT: To avoid injection pump damage, DO NOT attempt to start the engine while bleeding the fuel system.

2. Loosen fuel return line (A). Loosen filter base bleed screw (D). Push priming pump (C) until fuel runs out smoothly without spitting, then tighten bleed screw (D).

3. Loosen injection pump bleed screw (B). Push priming pump (C) until fuel runs out smoothly without spitting, then tighten fuel return line (A) and bleed screw (B).

Car has been sitting up and will not start now. It seems to not be getting gas and I do not know how to prime a fuel injection system. Any help appreciated.

There is only a few cars fitted with an ancient petrol injection system that needed any priming.

Diesel engines mostly need the injection system priming but petrol injection systems do not.

Lots of cars use a system where the fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds when the ignition is switched on and that is all the time it takes to prime the fuel system. After a couple of seconds the fuel pump switches off and waits to restart when the engine is cranked.

As priming the system takes only a couple of seconds some manufacturers don't bother with the brief priming run of the pump and just have the pump start when cranking.

Could be faulty supply, fuse, pump relay or the pump itself.
If the car is fitted with an immobiliser, perhaps that is the problem.

I Let my chevy Blazer run out of gas,nw it wont start even though the relay and fuelpump is working.

Is it electric or mechanical pump? Electric is with fuel injection. If its fuel injection, you should hear the pump run when you turn ignition switch. If u don't hear it, try starting, if no, turn off then on. It will self prime. Carburetor is with mechanical pump. I usually put few drops of gas in the carb. Start it, if no, more in carb till it stays running.

The injection pump loses it prime . so i run it on starting fuild until it picks up then it runs fine. I cleaned the fuel filters and all the line. I think it might be the fuel pressure valve maybe

Most of the time the problem will not be in the pump. I have seen the check vale inside the pump do this not too often. How about the fuel pump itself? I have seen this alot!!! It is the one you pump to prime the injection pump.

Where is my fuel pump at? on a 1995 chevy camero 3.4 yes ran the car out of gas put so in wont start now what should i do first

Your fuel pump is in the tank. Turn on the ignition, and listen if you can hear the pump run in the tank. It will only run a few seconds if the engine is not running. You can repeat this several times to prime the fuel injection.

No pump. The only pump is the injection pump.

Silverado not starting unless prime

There is a check valve in the fuel pump that sounds like it may have gone bad. Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60 to 65psi during the prime and will drop 5 psi when the engine is running. Once the fuel line is primed, check to see how fast you lose your prime. Since you replaced your injection system, we can eliminate the fuel pressure regulator leaking which was common on the injection system your truck run's on. If the fuel pressure drops fast then it's going to be a bad check valve at the fuel pump and it may be time to replace the fuel pump it self. Good luck and hope this helps. Note: do not try to start the engine with putting gas through the throttle body, it's been know for small fires to start and burn the spider injectors.
