Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

I lost my word processing icon during a power outage. How do I get it back?

Go to microsoft office--> microsoft office tools--> microsoft office picture manager--> help--> detect and repair--> check restore my shortcuts while repairing.

This should restore all the microsoft office shortcuts.

I have been guilty of locating the program file, creating a shortcut to it, and cutting and pasting the shortcut to the desktop. Although it works, it is not pretty! The aforementioned solution is preferable.

qalmar1217, Power supply may be bad and need some work done on it! First, go visit this site and do some reading. http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/ I suspect your monitor no different than what you will be reading about. Your symptom(problem) not new. In fact it happens to be an epidemic disease among CCFL back-lit lcd monitors of all brands. Do some research in my fixya profile and you will see what I mean. Good luck with the repair. Come back here if this was of some help to you and rate this response. 12fixlouie

My hp f1703 monitor just turns off on it's own.

Common failure in this monitor is the poor soldering works on the doughnut (4) shape inductors in the inverter board, http://www.lesliewong.us/blog/2005/05/02/hp-pavilion-f1703-flat-panel-display-blackout-solution/
