bvanjoff, you have not responded to my two previous messages, if you don't want to assist me just refund me my money I paid

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

The other tech bvanjoff did not answer my questions nor responded to my last two; I would like some one to assist me or please refund my money

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

Thank you for responding, I appreciate it.

It was a gradual thing One day the current on wasn't working and then I plugeed it to another and it worked for a day or so and then none of the others were working. I checked it with my desktop ubs port and the device is working it is just my Toshiba Satellite Laptop A105-S171 Model PSAA2U-005019

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

How can I get into my bios settings?

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

It has 4 UBS ports and none work

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

Now that is a good question, but when I plug tge cordless mouse to the USB port it does work

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

I tried about three different devices and they don't work on any of the four ports; I have tried an external drive and it doesn't work; i have tried a different memory thing and it doesn't work, the printer doesn't work either. But then the cordless optical mouse works on all four ubs ports but none of the other devices work on these ports; but all of them will work in my other computer's ubs ports.

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

    Tim,

Now I am noticing that it is sensing a device, but won't name it correctly and when I try to open it via my computer it then blanks out the screen where it is showing all storage icons ... in my computer screen.

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

Tim, when I plug in my flash drive, I then go to My computer screen to see if it recognizes trhe flash drive on drive E for example; on that same screen I can also see Drive C and drive D etc. But when I double click to open drive E the screen removes all the icons and it stays lit but I don't see the C drive nor the D drive nor the E drive icons. Now if I had the same screen open and I double clicked on the C drive instead then it whould show me the contents that are on drive C for example. But not for the e drive that is on the ubs port

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

I wanted to do a restore to about three months ago when it actually happen but it is only allowing me to restore, as late as May 16 and no further. Is there a way I can tell it to restore from a later date... say March.

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

When I double click on the E drive the screen is showing nothing just a blank lit screen and when I read my flash from my other computer, ofcourse it opens up all my other fliles on my flash drive.

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

The screen is fully lit, but there is absolutely nothing on the whole screen it totally blank, but lit

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

Nope it couldn't do a restore.

Everything else is working great, it is just those UBS ports not working.

I guess I 'll take it to the shop and see what they say.

  • wamafrancisc Jul 19, 2009

Thanks Tim I appreciate your efforts and your recommendation. Good night man.

Hello there, sorry to hear about your troubles. What did the other tech person have you do? If the problem is fixable I can help you do it. Did they just die suddenly one day? Was it as you were plugging something in or unplugging something? What was the device you first tried that didn't work?

Thanks much, we can get this resolved.

To get into the bios I believe it is either DEL or F2 on the keyboard right when you turn on the system. When you turn it on look for something that says SETUP=(KEY) where (KEY) is the key you want to press to get into the bios. My battery is dying right now so I will respond in about 30 minutes. Let me know what you find in the bios.

Also, have you tried any other devices on your system that are USB, are you certain no USB devices work, or just the one in question?

    Thanks

    Tim

You have tried multiple devices? Or just one device? Do you have a USB mouse? If you plug it in do you even get it to light up on the bottom?

    Thanks

    Tim Grayson Jul 19, 2009

Wait, so your mouse is working via USB? I am thinking its probably just the one device that is having problems and not all of your USB ports.

    Let me know

Sounds like it definitely could be a hardware failure on the USB controller, since one device works, but it is a lower power device, it may be that your other devices just aren't able to draw enough power from the ports. When you plug in the other devices do you hear the windows sound indicating something new was plugged in? How about when you unplug them?

    Thanks
    Tim

Hrm, having a hard time deciphering what you mean. So it sounds like it is actually recognizing the device, and I assume you are talking about the hard drive now if you say you are trying to go to my computer to open it, but it is not listed? Or what do you mean the screen blanks out? Does the screen go entirely black? Or my computer is blank with nothing listed? Or what do you mean?

    Tim Grayson Jul 19, 2009

Ok when you double click E drive does it say E at the top of the screen? Also, when you plug in that flash drive on another computer and go to it, it shows you whats on the drive?

    Thanks
    Tim

It will show you all possible dates that you can restore from. If it doesn't let you restore further back then that restore point doesnt exist. Have you tried the May restore point? It it starts working after you restore it, you probably have a virus. Even it doesnt its very likely you have a virus.

    Thanks

    Tim

    Tim Grayson Jul 19, 2009

Right, but at the top of the screen does it show you that you are looking at your E: drive? The very very top...

The entire screen is blank? You don't have a start button or anything? Or just the main part of the windows is blank? Either way it really doesn't matter I guess, it definitely sounds like a potential virus, especially since the mouse is working. Either that or the USB ports are indeed failing. Let me know if you try to go to a restore point.

That is definitely your best bet. If it failed while restoring that is also a sign of a virus. If you could rate my answer / help 4 thumbs or very helpful I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks so much

The first thing to do is to go into your BIOS settings and ensure that your USB ports have not been turned off. If you have a built in hardware checker run the app and see if you get any problems reported. Then go to the Toshiba site and download the latest USB drivers for your specific laptop. Then follow the instructions from the site to install them to your computer. Normally I would give you the specific website address, but you did not list your model, so here is the main Toshiba support site:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp#

I will assume you have tried all of your USB ports. If after taking the steps outlined above you still cannot get any of your USB ports to work I would then contact Toshiba if you have any warranty left, or take your laptop into your local Toshiba repair shop to have them resolve the issue. Good luck and I hope it works out okay for you.

Thank you for giving the model number but did you try all of the things that I suggested you try? Also, sorry for taking awhile to respond but we can only work on one item at a time. When you reply I won't see it until after I finish the case I'm working on and then check back. Follow the URL I gave you and try to reinstall the drivers, check the BIOS, and as I said, if after all of that your USB ports still don't work, then you will have to either get warranty work done, or if you are out of warranty, then take the laptop to your local Toshiba repair shop. There are certain things that can be checked if the unit is taken apart. If all of the steps don't work then either your ports aren't working, your USB controller is not working, or there may be a problem with your motherboard.

Please make sure you try all of the steps I gave you in the first message. Thank you,

After not using my laptop for several months (it was plugged in however) my USB mouse will not work now when I boot up my Toshiba Satellite laptop.

Here are some trouble shooting steps you can try relatively easily....
If the mouse connects via a USB cable, try connecting it on another USB port while the laptop is on.
If it is an optical mouse, check to see if the LED(s) underneath are lit. Change ports until LED lights.
If you have another computer also with a USB mouse and it is working, try a mouse exchange. If the non-working mouse also does not work on the other computer and the mouse from the other computer works on your Toshiba Satellite laptop, the problem is likely with the non-working mouse.
Finally, If the non-working mouse is a wireless one, its battery may be dead. Try a new battery in it.

I have a toshiba satellite laptop A135 series and it won't recognize my toshiba external hard drive. However, the drive works fine with my HP

This can be an issue with the USB port, or the drivers.
Is the hard drive a Power HDD ? that means it has 2 usb chords one for power and one for data transfer? coz those might not work with laptops, also has it ever worked with the laptop ?
Thanks

Toshiba A45-S1202 The rear USB port does work, but the side USB ports by the upper left corner by the LAN port don't work. I did a BIOS FLASH, still nothing! Is this a DUMMY USB? No power to the upper left...

There are no dummy ports on laptops....could be a cold solder point on the motherboard connections or a wire connection is loose. There is also the possibility that the usb controller for that port has failed. Below is the link to the service and repair manual for that laptop......

I have a toshiba satellite A-135 laptop that will not recognize anything plugged into the usb ports

Check to see if one of the USB ports is damaged. Sometimes they can be damaged and have connections touching the outside metal of the port which actually grounds the connection and will cause the other ports to not work either. If it is connected then use a flat tip screw driver (*with the machine off and battery out*) to make it not touch the outside of the usb port and try "other" USB ports that aren't damaged and see if it works. If it doesn't then you are looking at needing a new motherboard. Locate your closest ASP and take in for service, you can find them at support.toshiba.com.
