Question about A.B.S . ABS MAYHEM G3 Eclipse R70 NoteBook

2 Answers

ABS Mayhem G3 Laptop: I recently acquired the "Windowsclick" virus, and in the process, my antivirus software went nuts, and messed up my registry files. The computer won't recognize my CD drive,though I've gone in and tried to reset the drive. My hope was to restore my system using the Windows recovery/restore cd, but the computer won't read it on startup. It also won't boot from my external CD drive, or the copy I made to a USB. Any help would be much appreciated - I really don't want to take it to geeksquad and pay the $300 they quoted me to look at it!

Okay first things first. look for your opening screen and click the appropriate button to boot into the BIOS screen. once in there move to Boot Options and select the appropriate device to boot from which is your dvd rom. in this screen also check to see what priority number your hard drive is in. if it is before the dvd rom select the correct options in your bios to move the hard drive down to the lowest priority. your dvd rom should be first boot device then usb second and so on making sure your hard drive is last. now go to save your changes and make sure you save your changed options and exit and reboot. now see if a screen comes up during the boot screen again that allows you to select boot device. some units have an option some dont. if your laptop has it good select it. its usually f12 or something like that. in that screen make sure you select dvd/cd rom to boot and click , then click your enter key a few times and you should be able to see your black screen toss a line up that says press any key to boot from cd. i have found that in some cases you have to tap the enter key to activate the dvd rom, dont ask me why. it sounds stupid but it works for some reason. once you are in this screen you can now restore you drive to its original factory settings....Good Luck! Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for the very detailed solution, Ruben! However, when I went into the BIOS, the DVD drive doesn't even show up as an option to boot from. All I have is the hard-drive and "Realtek Network Service". I don't see USB as an option either. If you know of anyone who wants a beautiful non-working laptop as a project, let me know! This one will be heading for the dumpster soon!

How can i remove virus

Removing viruses, though technical, is yet a very simple process if all the required steps are properly followed.
The basic steps are:
  • Buy or download a reliable antivirus software
  • Install the antivirus software
  • Update antivirus software with the latest virus definitions
  • Perform a complete system scan
Install an Antivirus Program in the System What is Antivirus program? An antivirus is a program that searches for, identifies and removes potential viruses existing in the computer system.
Antivirus software: Some of the most commonly and reliable antivirus programs available in the market are -
  • Symantec Norton antivirus
  • AVG antivirus
  • McAfee Scan
  • Microsoft Antivirus
The antivirus software should be updated regularly to retain its effectiveness.
Before installing the antivirus, close all open applications and terminate any suspicious processes using Task Manager. Sometimes, you may need to boot into safe mode or safe mode with command prompt to delete suspicious programs and references to them in the Windows Registry (run regedit from the command prompt to open the registry editor).
Search engines are excellent tools to find out whether a certain process is harmful or not. You can also get steps on how to remove a specific virus manually.
Removing the virus beforehand might be necessary, as some viruses will not allow an antivirus to operate. However, if you are not successful, you may still continue with the installation.

Scan the System to Identify and Locate the Virus Usually, the antivirus will run automatically when the system reboots after the installation. Therefore, it might identify the virus automatically. Moreover, you may want to run a quick system scan to locate the virus.
Troubleshooting the Virus Infected Areas After the antivirus identifies the infected areas, the next step is to rectify those areas.
Methods of Eliminating Viruses
Generally, the antivirus adopts one of two methods to eliminate the virus:
  • Removing the virus - When the virus can be easily identified and can be removed without affecting other files, then the antivirus removes it from the host place.
  • Quarantine - his is done when the virus cannot be easily identified removed from the file and the removal of virus means the removal of the complete file. In this method, although the virus is not eliminated, it is rendered inactive by moving the file into "quarantine" and renaming it.
Perform a Full System Scan Even after the virus is removed from the system, the next step is to scan the whole system to ensure that no infected files remain.

Trojan Horse Removal

A virus is program that has malicious content in it and replicates itself and a Trojan horse is program that will only work if the user executes it. Sometimes, a Trojan horse covers itself as a fake folder while in fact, it's an .exe file.
The good thing about Trojan horse is that it is not that hard to get rid of them. But the bad thing about Trojan horse is that it is a little bit difficult to find them.
Although, it does not corrupt files or delete data stored on your hard disk until you execute it. Once executed, it will allow the hackers to indentify your credit card number, social security number, bank account details or some other private information.
You can delete or remove the hidden Trojan horse with the help of antivirus software. Either, you can also try the manual process to delete it or you can follow these steps:
STEP 1 Open the System Information Utility (msinfo32.exe). You can find the System Information Utility by typing “msinfo32.exe” in ‘Run’. This program lists all the processes running on any Windows system, even those processes that are hidden from the task list. Now open your virus scanner and run the executable or .dll through it.
STEP 2 Open your antivirus software and run a virus scan. If you don't have a antivirus software installed, download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5. And run a scan using it. After the scanning process is completed, delete the value that was detected from the registry (before doing this step, take a backup of the registry files):
A) Click ‘Start’ > ‘Run’.
B) Type "regedit".
C) Click "OK".
D) Go to the subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices

E) Now delete any value from the right pane that was detected during the scan process.
F) Exit the Registry Editor.

AVG Antivirus is a popular security software that is available both in free and paid versions. There can be many reasons for you to uninstall AVG Antivirus from your computer. Some of the most common reasons are:

* You want to upgrade to the latest AVG Antivirus version and you are unable to do so without uninstalling the current version.
* The AVG Antivirus installation is corrupt and you want to uninstall and then reinstall it to repair the issues.
* You feel the AVG is slowing down your PC and you want to opt for lighter antivirus software such as Antivirus Plus.

If you cannot uninstall AVG Antivirus using the Add or Remove Programs utility available in the Control Panel, you may use one of the following methods to uninstall AVG Antivirus from the system:

Using AVG Remover Tool

1. Open AVG Tools Download web page.
2. Here, search for and download the AVG Remover tool for the AVG software you have installed on your computer.
3. After the download is complete, use this utility to uninstall AVG Antivirus from the system.

You may be asked to restart your PC a few times during the removal process. So, it is best to use this feature when you are not doing any other work on your computer.

When you uninstall AVG Antivirus software by using the AVG Remover tool, the following related files and folders are removed from the system:

* All AVG user
* Virus Vault content
* User files
* Registry entries
* Any other information related to AVG

AVG Remover tool removes a lot of data related to AVG from your computer. During this process, the chances are quite high that some essential Windows or user file is removed. This is the reason why, you must use this method only if you cannot remove AVG using Add or Remove Programs.

My acer aspire 5740 with windows 7,freezes everytime i connect to the internet.pls help asap.

If your computer or laptop freezes on a regular basis, chances are it has acquired a virus or a series of viruses.

Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" when your computer is frozen. This will launch a Windows Security window.

Hit "Shut Down..click on the "up" arrow beside a red button located at the bottom-right corner of your screen. Select "Restart." Wait until Windows finishes the rebooting process.

Launch your web browser and install an antivirus program. AVG, Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky are all reputable makers of antivirus software and downloads

Restart your system after you have finished installing the antivirus program.

Launch the program and run a complete virus scan. Wait until your antivirus program completes the task and detects the virus infection. Follow its prompts to remove the virus.

Run virus scans at least twice a week. This will prevent your computer from getting another virus that causes problems such as the screen freezing.

After spilling soda on my laptop it turns on and works fine for 1 hour, then screen goes black. I cleaned keyboard fine. Problem is there always. I have to wait for laptop to cool down(fans work fine),...

A soda spill will do this every time. As the Notebook recovers I doubt that the inverter board as gone. But the suger from the soda could be melting and causing a short. The only real solution is to completely dismantle the notebook and clean it with white spirit or similar. It will help if you can download disassembly instructions first! PS Try not to use it for too long without cleaning it.
