Hi

First I would advise you to try a master reset of the unit - follow the steps below.

1. Power the unit OFF - (remove batteries in your case if necessary)
2. Hold down the two Soft Keys for 2 seconds.
3. While continuing to hold the 2 Soft Keys down, press and hold down the Power button for an additional 5 seconds (reinsert batteries)
4. Release all buttons, and select YES to the prompt asking "if you want to clear all user data?"

If this does not work post up a comment to let me know and I will continue the troubleshoot. Many Thanks.

    Ok. A few questions

    1) What site did you download the geocaches from?

    2) How did you transfer the geocaches to the GPS and did you use Garmin Communicator to do this?

    3) Did you use the correct procedure to disconnect the GPS from the computer?

    3) Is the GPS recognised by the computer when you connect it now?

    Thanks.

Ok. As it stands the only way to resolve this is to get the unit recognised once again by the computer. The reason for this is you will have to go in and delete the files you have downloaded which for some reason are locking the unit up. These files will be marked as gpx files and you will need to identify and delete these from the unit in order to stand a chance of it working again.

In its present form you will have to return the unit to Garmin for repair as it is effectively locked down at present. However there is a fix that has been known to work for this unit which I have given the link to below. It is important that you follow each step to the letter and it is something which you do at your own risk. However as the Unit is currently locked up there is probably not much to loose!

Go to this link and look under M12 on that page http://garmincolorado.wikispaces.com/Mis...

Download the zip file to your computer and follow the instructions exactly as listed. If you do not feel confident about following these instructions the short answer is that your unit will have to be returned to Garmin as without the ability to connect the unit to your computer and delete the bad gpx files the unit will remain permanently locked.

This should resolve your problem or alternatively you will need to return the unit to Garmin.

Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

Try updating your device software : http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00622-45 Also, update your Webupdater software as well. And if neither works you may want to try a separate USB port as well. Hope this helps!

Problem with our Garmin you can turn it on and it will not do anything but display Garmin name and will not turn off. Have changed batteries, any ideas???

It sounds like your Garmin has a corrupt file or file system. This is common when using bird's eye imagery with unsuspected shut-downs.
Try doing a soft reset of the Garmin:Warning: This procedure will delete information (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc) from your GPS and settings may be set back to factory defaults.

1. Power the unit OFF
2. Hold down the two Soft Keys for 2 seconds
3. While continuing to hold the 2 Soft Keys down, press and hold down the Power button for an additional 5 seconds
4. Release all buttons, and select YES to the prompt asking "if you want to clear all user data?"

This form of reset does not seem to reset all of the settings to factory defaults, just a few of the basics like Time Zone and Language, the remainder of the settings are still taken from your existing profile files.

Once you have completed a reset remember to place the Colorado outside in a stationary position for 20 minutes in plain view of the sky so that it can rebuild the almanac before using it again.

Note: Holding down both soft keys and the select button in a similar fashion seems to do a similar reset to the Colorado. This may be a master reset.

If the problem still persists, try this as a last ditch effort.
Warning: This procedure may delete information (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc) from your GPS and settings may be set back to factory defaults.

If you can't get your CO to start properly and it will not go into USB storage mode when connected to your computer you can try this as a last ditch recovery. It worked on a 400t that would freeze when loading maps and soft/hard resets didn't not work, I've also used it to recover a Colorado which refused to boot because of a bad gpx file.

First you'll also need to download file below. Once you've downloaded this file unzip it into a directory such as C:Garmin on your PC.

On your PC click the Start menu, select "Run..." and type "cmd" where it says open. A black window with a DOS command prompt should appear. At the command prompt enter the following command:

.text { font-family: monospace; }.text .imp { font-weight: bold; color: red; }.text span.xtra { display: block; } > cd c:Garmin
At the next command prompt type the following command without hitting enter:

.text { font-family: monospace; }.text .imp { font-weight: bold; color: red; }.text span.xtra { display: block; } > Updater.exe 066101000230.rgn
Now back to your GPS.

Press and hold the "up button" on the Rock'n Roller while you plug the CO into the USB cable. Wait 10-20 seconds while still holding the "up button". You should see a Garmin banner and nothing else. At this point you can hit enter on your PC to execute the updater command. Once the updater runs you will need to select you Colorado under USB and hit enter. This should perform the update (you may get a warning about loading an older version of software). You should receive a message that the update was successful and the Colorado will reboot.

Once the reboot is complete the "Loader" banner should appear near the top of the CO screen after about 30 seconds. Release the "up button" and on your PC you should be able to see the Colorado as a USB drive.

You can now attempt to fix the files on your Colorado which are preventing it from starting. If you've recently added or changed files these are good places to start. Deleting gpx files and/or replacing map img files with your backup copies may resolve the issue as well.

Gps is only accurate within 100+feet while geocaching. Problem started just in the last month before that it was dead on. I've replaced battries and recalibrated but still no good.

The GPSr needs to build a new almanac. There are a few steps to do this properly.

1. hook up your Garmin to your PC and copy your wanted files. (Waypoints, geocache log, maps)
2. Do a soft reset of the GPSr.Warning: This procedure will delete information (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc) from your GPS and settings may be set back to factory defaults.

This form of reset does not seem to reset all of the settings to factory defaults, just a few of the basics like Time Zone and Language, the remainder of the settings are still taken from your existing profile files.
for this
3. Build a new almanac (Make sure you have fresh batteries)

Once you have completed a reset remember to place the Colorado outside in a stationary position for 20 minutes in plain view of the sky so that it can rebuild the almanac before using it again.

Compas is not accuate

Hello,

When using the compass on the Garmin Colorado 400T it is recommended that you actually calibrate it before each use, you probably just need to be recalibrate. Also make sure that there is no magnetic tools around the device.

Hope this helps!

Have a Garmin Oregon 400t. It does not want to recognise maps stored on the SD card. If I connect the Garmin to computer, I can read the files on the SD card but when I look to select the maps, they are...

Memory Maps are for PDA's only, not for Garmin GPS units. If you purchased these from Memory Map, contact the company and request a refund due to hardware incompatibility. Maps for the Oregon are from Garmin (purchase) or Ibycus (free).
