Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hello, I have a Daewoo Plasma TV, model number DP 42-SM. I'm trying to troubleshoot the problems on the TV in an attempt to repair it myself; every repair shop I've called has said to "just buy another TV." I do not want nor can I afford to do that. The problems are these: when plugged into either the main component 1 or 2 jacks, I get a picture with a green hue. Then after a short while (about 20 minutes), it turns completely green. On the s-video and the other video jacks, I do get a picture with no color problems; however, it "flashes" on and off. Sometimes, I get a frozen image while the screen blinks on with the picture. The audio comes in clearly and uninterrupted. I have ordered a service manual and have narrowed the problem down to either video pcb board, or the jack pcb. I don't have the equipment to test either of them down to component level. Can you please give some input on which part to order, or both?

    Hi plaboy,

Thanks for the suggestions. Upon more troubleshooting, I realized that I had the audio output from my cable box plugged directly into my surround sound receiver. When I connected speakers directly to the TV, I discovered that the audio cuts out when the video does. Is this indicative of a bad video PCB? Or, could it instead be the digital PCB which produces the control signals?

As I said before, I'm trying to do this on my own; I'm not a video repairperson, I'm just a person with an Associates degree in electronics and is tired of being told to buy another tv. I don't have the test equipment to run the checks you've indicated. I'm looking for a quick and easy solution, if there is one. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Thanks, palaboy! That really narrows it down for me and hopefully saves me some money in the process!

Hi,

first we check on the video PCB board

a) the video .... board operates on at least 200v

b) getting a green raster means the other video output transistors are not working.

c) check the supply rails of 12v or 9v , supply might be low or intermittent

Second we check on the power supply

a) check if there are bulge capacitor on the power board

b) check the supply rail of 12v

check the diode
check the capacitor

3rd if you have auxiliary power supply

you need to supply the 12v with it and note down the voltage reading on it
a ) if the voltage drops more when connected

b) or the circuits have getting too much current

4th a good multimeter will help you the most in assessing where the trouble might be

Voltage reading might be the first to do and have a note on it

Visual indication of bulge indicates a faulty circuit

Visual indication of cold solder on PCB foil path indicates fault on the circuit

hope my suggestions helps, thanks for using Fixya!

All of these will be done with a help.

    hi,

    it is just my suggestion,

the quickest and easy solution might be to replace circuits boards.

    the candidates are:

    1) power supply board

    2 )digital circuit board

    3) both 1 & 2

PINK SCREEN ON DAEWOO PLASMA TV

Sounds like your panel might be going out or a faulty video card. This is the first time I have heard of a solid pink screen on a plasma. Usually this happens on LCDs, though they sometimes go white and stay white, which does signal a bad panel. tv needs repair

Daewoo DTS42 plasma problems, please help!

The PDP (plasma display panel) is defective and needs to be replaced. The big problem is that Daewoo no longer carries replacement panels for this model. I'm in the same boat you're in. I hate to throw away the tv so I'm waiting to see if I can find a replacement panel on ebay.

Theoretically yes functionally no. Not unless the parts are the same, chack the model numbers of the plasma screens. If they match you can change them out, if not don't try it.
