Question about Dell 924 All-in-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I have a 3-4 year old Dell All in 1 924 Printer. I've been getting paper jams of late. It's seems to be pulled to the right. Could I have a worn roller on the left? I've adjusted the paper guide but this seems to be too easy a solution. Is it time to just get a new printer?????

Usually, these problems are connected to paper dust on the rollers, or the rubber has gotten slick with use. Use dry, clean fingers to rub across the rollers as they are turned by hand. Try cleaning the interior out with a vacuum blowing, not sucking. These rollers hardly ever wear out.

Paper jams frequently

Use a flashlight and check the paper path thoroughly. You may find bits of old paper, dust and debris. Perhaps a thorough blowing out with compressed air will help. Also, the paper feed mechanism may be damaged or worn.

For every single print job, paper gets jammed. Heve tried several paper brand always same issue. Printer is 7 years old.

if getting paper jams, it is most likely that there are issues with paper grab wheels etc. If the printer is 7 years old, it is more than likely cheaper to replace than to repair it.

When the paper is fed it is pulled in w/ the bottom right side of the paper going in but not the left side, it becomes uneven and ends up jamming - what would be the reason it would grab and pull the right...

The most likely cause of the problem is an obstruction on the left side of the paper path - most likely a shred of paper from a previous jam. You can estimate where to look by how far the paper goes in before it starts to twist to the side. Sometimes I've had to use a dental pick to snag a shred buried deep inside as an alternative to dismantling the printer. You may find it helpful to use a small mirror to look underneath or behind rollers while you search for the culprit.

Another possibility is one side of a dual pickup roller (two rollers on a single shaft) is worn out. That is unlikely; except for large format units most printers use a single pickup roller.

A940 doesn't feed paper correctly

My DELL A940 printer used to jam every time with the paper pulling to the right.
Solution - there was a pen jammed in the mechanism !
I was about to trash the printer when I looked deep into the workings from above, holding the printer to the window to get bright sunlight into it. I could see a round ballpen laying in the groove at the bottom.
Hooked the pen out and all is back to normal.
This may not be your problem, but its worth a look.

How to solve repeated paper jams in Dell 3010 laser printer

Replace the pick rollers. If you're out of warranty it'd be mighty expensive to have Dell replace them, but, if you call them, they can get you access to a website (I can't remember the name...sorry) that has walk through tear-downs with pictures of each and every step. (Only do this if you're handy and have time)

Otherwise, replacement is the next option.

Typically Jams on this unit are from worn rollers. :)

Good luck.
