Question about Western Digital Passport® WDXMS3200TN 320GB 320 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive
My WD passport (320 GB) stopped giving reasonable transfer rates. I tried to reformat the HDD, after which the speed remains the same (basically non-acceptable).
I am again trying to format the HDD but it's doesn't format @ all! It just remains stuck in the "formatting" screen and even after hours shows no progress of it ever getting formatted.
Does anybody has any solution to this problem? Thanks a lot for your help.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

My understanding is that after 5 failed attempts at keying the password, the WD locks the drive. YOu then have to go through a power on sequence which gives you another 5 attempts at putting the password in. After that you have to reformat the drive and lose all the data if you want to use the drive.
It is very likely the hard drive is locked to the application that was transferring the file from laptop to the hard drive.
Try to follow some of the steps in the unlock drive section of this webpage.

Well in this case, formatting should no be performed. the Western Digital data recovery tool should be taken a try first of all. If it doesn't help, then take the device for data recovery services if the data is really important to you.
Remember - DO keep the deivice safe from data overritten or physical damage. Regards.
