Question about Sony Televison & Video
If you have the model that I'm familiar with, there is a good probability that the picture tube is starting to fail. If you are comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages, try the following:
With the back off, locate the flyback transformer. This will be the part with the large red wire going to the side of the picture tube. On the back of the transformer should be a couple of adjustable knobs or holes. One should be labeled screen the other focus. Try turning the screen control SLIGHTLY clockwise. Then try the set. If the picture remains on, then you have bought yourself some time to locate a replacement. This fix will not last long. If there is little effect, then the tube is likely failing and the set needs to be replaced.
