Okay. I would suggest that you have a problem with your roller brush. If the roller becomes clogged with hair/debris, the bearings will sieze, and sometimes even melt the plastic. the roller then has a difficult time turning and will break the belt. If the belt is slipping off, I would suggest that you either have a worn belt, the wrong belt, Or, your "windtunnel" (the half cylindrical insert the roller sets in) is missing. this insert has a "belt guide" that keeps your belt aligned. hope this helps!!!

My hoover elite belt comes off within 5 seconds of turning it on

Those machines sit in the box in transit across the world and waiting for purchase. In time the rubber stretches out from just sitting there. In the old days they packed the belt separate from the vacuum and you had to put in on yourself. Today's buyers aren't so handy so the manufacturers are forced to put the belts on before sale. 80% of returned vacuums are due to this! Find the local Hoover Warranty center on the hoover dealer locator at hoover.com and they'll set you up with a new belt at no charge. Good Luck!

We have already spent $60 on getting the belt repaired once. This time, the same thing is happening, the belt is jumping of the small metal bar in the back of the housing. Seems like there should be...

Greetings from GoVacuum,

Ahh, the Hoover Windtunnel Self-Propelled model. This model has a some reoccurring problems with it. The majority of them have to do with the belt system.

Unfortunately Hoover doesn't put anything on the motor shaft (metal bar) to prevent the belt from falling off. If the belt is falling off on you, this indicates that either the belt is stretched out to the point where it wont stay tight, or the pulley that flat belt sits over may be loose, and causing the belt to loose tension there.

It has been my experience that these machines will require a belt change at least once a year, whether they are broken or not due the stretching problems that they have.

No worries though, we have put together a video repair on the belts of this vacuum cleaner to help others, and to show the correct way that the repair should be done. Our website, GoVacuum.com stocks all the parts for this model, and we'll be happy to help your further if you're still having problems.

Here's the video;

I really hope that this video helped you understand how to maintain your Hoover Windtunnel. If you need any further help, please feel free to request a repair clarification here on Fixya, or just send me an email.

If you did find this repair helpful to you, may you please click the 4 Thumbs Up Icons in the top right hand corner of the repair to help me out get started on Fixya? I really appreciate that, thank you so much.

if it sucks your hand onto the tube , the machine is working as a vacuum machine
then check fro a blockage in the elbow section near the head
if there is no vacuum , junk it and get a new one

sometimes when you buy belts from the walmart or target, they are not at the correct specification and they brake as soon as you turn on the machine. i would suggest that you buy these belts from the company.

Your belt may be twisted inside-out. Be sure the printed marks on the belt face away from the pulleys and shaft. The printing should face you.
