Question about GPS

1 Answer

Last week I purchased a brand new HDS5 sonar gps chart plotter. Yesterday I received the new navionics platinum for Canada lakes from Cabelas. I have the new operating system 2.130.58 When I put card in nothing happens. I am suppose to have an option for 3D on the menu and that is not there, in fact nothing has changed at all. Help

Well, I got the SD card for the Lake I fish in northern Ontario...thats 14 hours from here and in another country. Isn't there a way the graph can show me that it identifies the SD files as being loaded?

On this unit you must choose the proper map from the Map Data menu. The unit will not read the Navionics chart by simply inserting the card.

On the unit you must select the chart under the Map Data menu. Most GPS products access this by pressing the Menu key from a mapping page. Once the Map Data menu has been selected, change the Navionics Map Choice setting to the proper chart for your area of operation. Use the Exit key to return to the map screen. Zoom out on the map if necessary. Boxes should be visible around the area of coverage. If the boxes do not cover your area, repeat these steps to choose an alternate map if using an XL3 chart or a Hot Maps card.

If the chart is still not properly displayed, keep the GPS turned on and then remove the Navionics Chart. Reinsert the card and listen for a tone from the unit indicating that the card has been recognised.

Choose the chart again in the Map Data menu if necessary and follow the steps again as outlined. This should resolve the issue.

Hope this helps. If so please remember to accept and rate my answer. If you experience further problems post up a comment and I will continue to troubleshoot the issue for you. Many Thanks.

As stated the unit will not automatically read the card when it is inserted - you have to tell it to do this manually by going into the set up menu of the unit as outlined. Find the navionics map in the menu - select this and the card will then operate.

Once you have done this the graph will reflect the change.

    Hope this helps.

How do I get my lake map chip to come on

With your card in your unit follow these steps it should accomplish letting you view your map data.
push MENU twice
Highlight CHART push ENTER
Highlight CHART DATA push ENTER
Highlight LOWRANCE push ENTER.
You will note there is an option for Lowrance and Navionics, if you select Navionics you will see a distinct difference in the way the base map displays on your unit.
Hope this helps.

Charting a route on water

Hi, a waypoint is used to mark a point of interest for location purposes only whether it be for fish, hazards or a boat ramp etc. it is not intended to replace common sense. Your navionics card if purchased will show land masses, shallow waters, channel markers and known hazards. Regards Phil.

MapCreate Topo does not have lake maps. There are 'some' maps on Lowrance's web site (Free Enhanced Lake Maps) but you may need to purchase lake maps on SD cards for the area you're interested in.

I have a lcx 28c hd fish finding sonar and mapping gps

I've had several similar units, and used them with Navionics HotMaps Premium series chips. You must select Menu. The "Browse files" to access the MMC card option. Once the selection screen opens, choose which card or file you want.

FYI...All of Lowrances HD models come preloaded with pretty much every major lake and river in the US.

Lemme know if this helps...

Make sure that the 5200c is set to read the Navionic card. You can set that under Map Data.
