Question about Gateway HD1900 19" Monitor
My monitor is not functioning properly. It is only turning on "When it feels like it," usually after I wait 5-6 hours with the power cord out.
It is a 19" Gateway.
I unplugged my monitor from the wall and plugged it into a new outlet. When the display turned on, Theft Deterrent mode demanded I type a number in to continue. The code was wrong and the window closed, and the monitor continued working.
The next time I shut off my computer my monitor shut down completely. There is no LED light on, even though the cord is plugged in. I unplug the monitor and wait for 5 minutes, and when I plug it in the LED flashes once and then the monitor shuts off again.
If I wait a long time, multiple hours, the monitor comes on when i plug it in. Sometimes.
It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts,replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way.
