I have just solved a loud juddering noise on a C44 printer whenever the cartridge carriage moved to the far right "rest" position.

I removed the cover by pushing in the 3 spring clips at the back. Below the cartridge holder there is a unit for collecting ink when the unit self cleans- see diagram on
page 4 and spare part drawing ref 512.
The piece of plastic containing the hook seen on the right of the unit had become dislodge and the unit no longer sat square in the holder. I removed the unit, replaced the dislodged plastic piece and hey presto problem solved. Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

Why doesn't my HP OfficeJet 7500A carriage move? It is jammed

Try to turn it off, open cover and move carriage a little bit by hand; don't push too hard. For some time it'll get back to life.

There is nothing much to do if you get a Carriage Jam error. We can give a try to solve it ( Usually carriage jam error results in Hardware failure )

Follow the instructions below to resolve Carriage Jam issue.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Open the rear access door ( or duplexer )
  3. Check for any bits of paper stuck, if so, remove them.
  4. Open the front access door where you see the cartridges. Check for any paper pieces, if so, remove them.
  5. Move the carriage manually 5-6 times from left to right. The carriage should move freely. ( Do not apply force )
  6. If the Carriage does not move freely, try to remove the cartridges and close the rear and front access door.
  7. Power on the printer and it will prompt you for missing cartridges.
  8. Install the Cartridges. If it does not prompt you for cartridges missing, you will find Carriage Jam Error on the screen
  9. This indicates the printer is faulty and needs repair

Error 5100

5100 is a Carriage Home Position Error.
Clean the plastic strip that runs the length of the carriage, it may be contaminated.
Use alcohol and a swab.
Then clean the contact strip of your ink head cartridges, replace it on the carriage then move the carriage end to end and position it on the center.
Now reboot the printer ..
it should work

HP 7410 Poor printing, carriage jam message(fake), loud noise

Check the plastic strip that you'll see along the carriage track. Make sure it's clean. Take a soft cloth and dampen it. Run it up and down the strip and make sure it's clean. If there's any ink on it, it could cause carriage jams. The strip has tiny lines on it which tell the electronics where the carriage is. If the strip is dirty, you'll get jam messages and sometimes the carriage will slam against one end or the other.

I have a Dell A920 printer. Carriage stall error

Try this trick. Turn off the printer, reach in and manually move the carriage to the other side of the printer. Then, unplug it, plug er in and try again. If that doesn't work then it's most likely a dead unit.

Canon i80 service error 5100

Hi guys,
Service error 5100 indicates that carriage return (CR) operation is not performed successfully. After the printer turned on, printer initialize some operation include CR operation. This error happens when carriage part (carriage unit) has problem when move right and left in initialization process.
This may be caused by:
  • Faulty carriage part so thatit cannot read film encoder properly. As a result, carriagepart move on uncontrolled.
  • Dirty film timing **** strip (Horizontal film encoder;available only ini series and above) so carriage part cannot read film encoder properly.
  • Another material (such as broken paper, etc) present in carriage path, blocking carriage part from moving.
To fix this problem you may try the following tips:
  • Check if any material present in carriage path; remove (clear) it
  • Check if film encoder is dirty; wipe slightly with moistened clothe.
  • At last, if carriage part is faulty you need to replace it.

Carriage Jam

I tried all these steps and it still did not work was ready to throw the printer out from frustration. Instead I traced what I did when I had the jam. I believe if the factory can fix it so can I. My printer is now working and it was so simple yet HP does not tell you how to fix it.
